Passenger footplate removal?

There seems to be a lot less legroom in the passenger footwell compared to the driver's side. My passenger for Le Mans this year is tall, so I was wondering whether it's possible to remove the footplate to gain some extra space. Might save me pulling the carpets and soundproofing back to find it's welded in.

I've already set the seat all the way back on the runners but still means sitting in an uncomfortable leg position due to the diagonal footplate.

I'm looking at putting a wooden footwell plate in my RS clubsport.
I have removed the fire extinguishers and have them in store --- but I wanted passencers to have somewhere other than the wearing painted floor to put their feet.
I reckoned that a wooden one could easily be removed if I wanted to. And it's light, and green !

I'll report of the plywood version --- same as on the drivers side ??

IF not, the checker plate may be MkII !
