Past history/ service receipts

Can anyone help. I've just purchased a car which was serviced at OPC Hatfield since 2001. I'm trying to get copies of all the work done whilst they have been looking after it. Unfortunately, they are able to view the records, but can't print them.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

I would have thought that I should be able to go to any OPC, type in the Chassis number, and it should list all work done. Tried OPC Tonbridge and Mid-Sussex to no avail.[&:]

I think this is some farcical issue with the Data Protection Act. I beleive the service records (i.e. invoices etc.) are the property of the person/company paying the bill. I have tried this too (with non-Porsche cars) and you seem to get the same answer every time.

The service book generally will obviously come with the car but that only records that the scheduled services have been done but not what parts have been replaced etc. If the receipts are not kept with the car it is virtually impossible to (legally) get a copy.

Agreed - I have tried before to get service receipts from an OPC - they need written instruction from the owner who paid the bill at the time.

I had this problem with my car and so I asked the previous owner if he would mind getting them for me. The OPC sent the bills to him and he then forwarded them to me.

Personally, I think they are just being lazy and using the Data Protection Act as an excuse!

Thanks for the prompt responses all... These forums are a great source of info

RED tape.. I wouldn't even mind if they blanked out the owner information..

I did get records and invoices sent out by a OPC but that was 4years ago .I think what the others say is correct about DPA,agree they could blank out previous owners name, hope you get it sorted as paper work is essential as any one can stamp a book.

I asked for, and received, a service history printed out by an OPC some three years ago when I bought the car - they had no problem with it then.

I also contacted the DVLC to get the names and addresses of all the previous owners and wrote to them. I managed to get a number of extra documents and it was quite interesting to chat to two of them ... especially when they said they wished they had never got rid of the car as the 996 / Masterati replacments just weren't the same!!

Good luck with the history chasing.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to get some info from an OPC who quoted Data Protection Act. I informed them that I already had the address of the previous owners and if that was the only reason from issuing me a copy then they could blank out the name and address.

Not only was the receptionist rude but was just not prepared to even discuss the matter.

Talk about customer service!!
