PCCB - ceramic brakes on 987 - opinions

Who has driven, or better still, ordered PCCB on a 987?

We are thinking about an over the top spec, but I cant quite bring myself to include a £5k braking system.

To me, the main benefits would be in reduction of unsprung weight, so improved ride and grip over bumps. However, I remember how disappointed I was when taking my new 03 S around Nurbergring, to find the pads over heating and pedal flapping back. Sintered pads cured this, but with deadly dust paste as I later found out. PCCB would let you lap the Ring till your token money (or luck) ran out.

Anyway, any lottery winners out there who have chosen PCCB?

True, however to me those benefits are most likely to manifest themselves on track, which the PCCB are widely thought not to be suitable for? (If you hit a disc with gravel - could happen - then it can shatter and that's expensive...)

I'm not sure about that. An aquiaintence of ours from the 'Ringers list (Ulf) had a loan GT2 at the 'ring (loaned by the dealer until his delayed new GT3 'ring-toy turned up!).
It had PCCB and after the first day the pads were almost gone. He was having to check pad thickness after each lap to ensure he did not go through the pads. After a few laps that was it. No more laps until the dealership was open after the weekend.

Of course PCCB2 might be somewhat better...?

[:D] Thought PCCB was the sort of kit fast cars needed :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Have you contacted PCGB and asked who is running such a beast for a demo car [&o]

Are you saying that the pad overheated? I thought that usually resulted in poor brake performance but a firm pedal, whereas soft pedal was normally a sign of brake fluid problems?

Would have thought it was cheaper to buy uprated pads / floating discs rather than go for PCCB. Has anyone used Alcon or Brembo floaters on a Boxster?

Wow! 2 Bi-Xenon lighting systems! (Is that a quad-Xenon lighting system? [:D])

What a pity they couldn't fit a rear wiper - that would have been unique

Pity there's no power upgrade - it could do with one to compensate for all the extra weight [;)]

Another Boxster?

You haven't finished running in the one you have!!!

IMHO Ceramics are for racing cars. Spend the £5K on a special paint job to match Ali's orange outfit! [8D][8D]

JCB..

Not quite: no PASM, full leather, auto-dip mirrors and rain sensor or colour crested wheel centres; but mine has! The only option I haven't got is PCCB! Or the crested headrests - or the plastic 'aluminium' trim![:D]

So what is a "Screen defroster leather"? Is it one of those chamois pad you get to de-mist the screen? [8|]

Is is a leather covered defrost button on the dash? Perhaps a pair of leather gloves would work just as well...

Del,

you are the Man!

All we would change for us : 19" Carrera Sports wheels (gorgeous), Cocoa leather etc (fantastic - you have to see this), Sports seats and hesitating on the ACC,

But the total cost is a killer.

Nic - I specced ACC and can not see the point of it. Save your £200 odd and put it in the pot for something else. Also, the BOSE is questionable - it sounds good but the engine note is so delicious that it seems little point to try and drown it out.

For me, the must haves are sports seats and sports steering wheel - the 19" do look absolutely lovely and whatever you read about the quality of the ride they do look the absolutel danglies. The 19" Sport Designs also look good (they weren't available when I specced mine) but look like a pain in the ar5e to keep clean.

I was quite disappointed with the Bose setup in the 987s I was loaned. I think the money would be better spent on the Porsche Soundpack and some upgraded aftermarket speakers.
I feel bad saying that, but it just wasn't what I expected[&o]

Nic,

You're right about the price! However, unlike you, I didn't need to agonise over the specification - as I bought Nottingham OPC's demonstrator, and that came fully loaded.

I'm not impressed with the Bose, and wouldn't specify it if I was in your position; the ACC is effective and a value for money addition. I'm sure that you'd benefit from PASM - but, on normal roads, it's an expensive toy! The electric seats are a pain: too difficult to set up and slow to move - if you're sharing the car with another user; also the memory function tied to the keys is problematical to set up. I'd choose the sports seats - like you. Full leather is attractive but an expensive non-essential!
