PCGB discount at OPC's

Hi,

I realise this is more of a general question but I'm sure someone can help. I have my 986 booked in for a major service at an OPC (£395 inc VAT). Does my PCGB membership entitle me to a discount on the overall price or just the parts used?

Every little helps as it will need spark plugs (£200 quoted inc labour) and a brake fluid change (£75 inc labour) this time around.

Many thanks.

Hi Jonathan,
You should get 10% discount from your OPC on the parts used in the service but not the labour.

Depends on how good a customer you are. Speak nicely to your Service Manager and s/he may well oblige - they have for me.

Regarding the service (£395), I'm sure I asked if our PCGB discount can be applied & was told NO, that it was a fully discounted price anyway.

i would have thought that it would be applied to spark plugs as these are additional to service

by all means ask, would be interesting to see if anyone is told different from another OPC as mine is due a 4 year service in April......

All PCGB Members should recieve a 10 per cent discount on showing their membership card at PCs
Unless otherwise stated.

That's always been my understanding Alan. Of course, it's always worth asking for an additional discount on labour and other services, pointing out to the PC that competitive prices are available elsewhere (including other PCs!).

£200 for spark plugs fitted? Sounds steep? Most indies will match the OPC minor and major costs but the sparks are normally around £120. The plugs are around £6 each so £30. Brake fluid is about the same.

No that was just oil & filter...

Hi All,

Well my car had the service at the OPC that started this thread. There was other work to be done other than the standard menu price service work. When I went to pay they would not offer any PCGB discount at all, not even on the parts used outside of normal service work (coil packs, oil filler tube and new fuel cap).

Is that what you would expect? I queried it but they were adamant. They did a great job but it was certainly expensive at full OPC prices.

As I understand it there's no "official" Club discount, you need to build a relationship with the dealer. A crazy situation, as it could well be worth travelling to the next nearest dealership if they will offer a deal.

If they are being difficult about offering a Club member, who will tend to be a long-term Porsche owner, a discount, I'd be very vocal about taking my business somewhere else.

Dealer vs. indie is another discussion, of course, but I'd be playing the PC off against local specialists myself. We do that with our Subaru dealer, and they service our Legacy at vary good rates when they know we have other options. Some PCs offer very good rates for older Porsches, and welcome the business.
