So who is going? I think I remember Oldtimer saying he will be there in his RS.

Come and say hello if you are.

Yoda

I'll be there, but just for spectating. Looking forward to a passenger lap!

See you there

Rob

I will be there in my 993 RS. I have ordered a new set of tyres from Protyre who will be there fitting new boots to the cars. I'm going to try the Pirelli Corsas this time. They will go on at the end of the day if it's dry, but first thing if it's damp. My Dunlop SSRs are almost shot.

hi Yoda, I will be there under intense training but hopefully will get to say hallo. black , reg N365JDM , same spec as your friend wants to buy.

not selling this year yoda !
Still trying to come up to the potential of the 964RS , if I (ever) get there, either I'll retire from trackdays ( wife's favourite option) , or I'll trade up to a GT3 Mk1 in any colour bar white.....
anyway , Donington today was good , weather OK and can only remember one red flag which did not hold up proceedings for long. Loads of people in the briefing but organisers did a good job in keeping the track from being crowded. Apart from getting out of the way of the GT3RS's , and not being able to outdrive a Mitsubishi wotsit , honour was satisfied . Car got A- , driver got C+ , instructor lived for another day.....[:D]

Hello!

Nice to meet you fellas today. I thought the day was nice and relaxed. We kept getting stuck behind the odd Boxster with no mirrors, but hey! Certainly didn't spoil the day. John Probert told me to get the young instructor David to coach me and when he was in my passenger seat I was delighted to pass the odd GT3 RS! Woo-hoo!!

I had new Pirelli Corsas put on in the afternoon instead of the Dunlop SSRs. They were slightly grippier than the SSRs, but I must say they aren't worth £350-£400 more for the set. John Probert's car felt more stable in the bends on his Dunlop D 01 Js, so I might try them next. Or the Michelin Cup but their wet/cold weather performance worries me.

D01J's are good and a lot of the fast crew use them . Main advantage is economics - cheaper to buy and come with more tread depth than the other non Dunlop road legal tyres ( Corsas and Cups) . The rubber is probably same compound as SSRs but dont quote me on that. If you are going to push on in the wet on any of this stuff , good luck [;)]

Yoda,

Thanks for the laps at Donnington yesterday, really appreciated it.

But unfortunately the wife didn't, got home with a real cheesy grin and told her to go and stand on the corner to raise some money for my RS!!

Got a slap!

Thanks again

Rob

Hi. Nice to meet everyone, great day after the slightly slow start. Very relaxed and track cleared up after about 11am and remained free flowing for most of the day. Plenty of time to have fun and what a circuit!! Weather was dry and sunny and pretty hot in the afternoon. Had a drive in a GT3 and the best thing about it (after the engine of course) was the air con. Great car and a major contrast to the 964.

Rob - You're welcome. Track cleared up later in the morning so I tried to find you again to take you for a proper spin - guessed you must have gone home. If you are thinking of getting one I don't think you will regret it (unless your Mrs leaves you).

Regards

Yoda - thanks for encouraging me to come. Great circuit, even for a cautious learner!* And thanks for the trip - the 964 has shot up my wish list [;)]

Yeah nipped home to grab some sun tan cream (forgot to take with me) and decided to spend the day loafing in the garden with a couple of bottles of Becks.
Their would be NO regrets (even if she did leave me) it would be worth it!!

See you on the Dyno Day 2nd July

Regards

Rob

Hi All,
Yes I had a great day in my 993RS, with perfect weather and track conditions.
After lunch I had some instruction off young "Dave" who really helped me get some quick lines.
On the topic of Dunlop Road legal track tyres, I run SSR's on the GT3 and DO1J's on the 993.In my opinion the 1J's have the edge on the track in good conditions and seem to last forever!!

Regards

John

Rob - I haven't met your wife but that sounds a bit harsh [:-]

Shame you didn't come back in the afternoon, track was much more flowing and would have made for a much better ride than in the morning. See you on the 2nd July.

Oldtimer/Johnny - I have the MPSC tyres on my car and they feel in a different league to other tyres I have tried in the dry. They just grip and grip, with little flex or movement and car feels like it is on rails. I drove a GT3 on SSRs at Donington and it was a very different feeling, much more supple and forgiving and good feedback as you could feel them load up. If you have 2 sets of wheels, one of them should be wearing MPSCs even though rubbish in the wet and expensive.

Oltimer - I might try D01Js, what sizes were you using and do you have a good source and prices pls.

Regards

Trackday wise theyre in another class , maybe 01 's come second , but on a dry day only talking abt 1 -2 secs a lap, and although u can buy cut MSPC [ ILLEGAL ON RAOD ] the ordinary ones are horrific in standing water ...............hence Dunlops IMHO best compromise so u can enjoy urself in English weather!! Even the SSR are ok and sooooooooooooooo cheap !

hi Yoda, I have 215x45x17 on front and 265x40x17 on rear....cant remember if the ABS has ever chirped in with this, the front outside dia is 626mm and the rear outside dia is 644mm.
The widest part of the tyre is 220 mm front and 275mm rear , getting pretty tight at the back but dont seem to rub with standard RS spacers....no spacers at front but on full lock just brushes so a 3mm spacer would be ideal....I dont use full lock on track even when in trouble [;)]
call Dunlop Motorsport on 0121 306 3700 , from memory fronts are £130 and rears £155 , all plus VAT of course
