Those who are going, have you checked that your insurance policy covers you while on the Nurburgring?
Would be very interested to know whether you are and with whom you have arranged/got cover.
The company I'm current insured with, unfortunately no longer provided's cover for the Nurburgring.
I have contacted a company called 'Competition Car insurance' (recommended by PCGB) who will provide one day cover, but will not cover the car as a result of a blow out, as the car is not fitted with track specific tyres. (even though the car is fitted with Porsche 'N' recommended tyres)
They have quoted £350 for the day!

Would value your thoughts?
Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, I tried Mannings but they won't cover a Tourist day there! I then tried insuremytrackday.com , they just came back to me with a cost £872 for the day with a excess of 10% of my cars value !!

I haven't gone with these people.

Im with Porsche insurance (Marsh) and I haven't even spoken to them as Im sure any track day covered has to be organised by the ATDO

As yet therefore I am without insurance for the day. Id be very interested like you to know if theres a reasonable alternative.

Cheers

Nick

The Nordschleife is a public toll road and as such should be covered by your normal RT insurance provided you have European cover and Nurburgring is not been specifically excluded from your policy, so don't panic! [;)] But you should not be timed around the lap.
Regards,

Clive.

Hi Nick,
CCI also included 10% excess of the value, which I accept.
However, the dilemma for me is if I pay the premium then I want to be 100% sure I'm covered. As sure as eggs are eggs, if I were to take a chance, well, you know the story ;)

Even the tyre issue is all a bit bizarre. Oh, I wouldn't be covered for fire either, only if it was caused by impact!

Clive,
I have European cover, however my insurance company told me that the Nurburgring was not covered. Every other track circuit was, but not the Nurburg.

It's all down to what your policy says. [;)]

I looked into this when I took a group out two years ago, very few insurance companies will cover you on a tourist day, although I understand the public element of it means that they have to cover 3rd party.

I don't think anyone in our group took out extra cover. We pitched up first thing and it is nice and quiet, although damp which makes it interesting. In reality I think it opened up about 30 minutes before the official start time. This would be a good time to have a go.

On the day we were there it was wet, hailing and then sunny, many cars were taken off on the back of a transporter, so be careful and keep your eyes open.

I was there last weekend and would +1 turning up early, it opened last Sat at 4.15 pm not 6pm, prob due in part to a cancelled VLN Race earlier. Also, start your lap from Breidshied/Adeneau, less traffic and you drive a lap and a half , you pay 50% more as well.

Well, myself and the rest of R6 returned home safe and sound all in one piece after what I can only describe as an absolutely awesome weekend.
There were eight cars in total. The 6 day trip was organised by OPC Chester. Carl Hazelton (Dealer Principle) and Kat Smith were exceptional hosts and looked after us all extremely well.
To say that the weather on the Sunday when we visited the Nurburgring was wet, would have been an understatement. It absolutely poured down from when we left the hotel in Cologne in the morning, until around 3.30 in the afternoon. Myself and son Harv got on the track around 5.30 just as the circuit (racing line) was starting to dry out.
The icing on the cake was when we all decided to pass through Belgium on the way back to the ferry and call in at Spa Francochamps where we were allowed access to the race circuit and took the opportunity to experience some spirited laps of SPA. Wow the infamous 'Eau Rouge' !! nothing can prepare you for that sight and feeling once you take the hairpin after passing the pit straight. (the sort of feeling when on a roller coaster! [:D])
We had a absolute fantastic time made both by the company and friendships we made as well as by the generosity of our hosts.

Oh, yes, forgot to mention that the 964 performed exceptionally well. Didn't miss a beat the whole trip, in which we covered 1000 miles [:D]
