PORSCHE CLUB GREAT BRITAIN - REGION 2

Autumn 2004 'Get together Weekend'

29 Oct - 31 Oct 2004

Posted on behalf of John Chesworth

The last weekend of summertime has got to be a good excuse for a Porsche oriented outing. Good company, good food, a reasonably priced comfortable hotel (The Deeside Hotel, Braemar Road, Ballater) and some excellent driving should make for a great weekend.

Numbers will be limited so that everyone gets to meet everybody. The hotel has nine rooms (5 doubles and 4 twins) and a very pleasant Dining Room at which 24 of us can sit down and eat together. So, we are going to limit the numbers to 24. I live just around the corner and so wont take up a room in the hotel but will be eating at the hotel, which means that two couples will be accommodated at a nearby Bed & Breakfast (within crawling distance)

The programme has been designed to suit those who have to work for a living and Friday evening will be very flexible. Donald, our host, will have the Dining Room open for normal service until 9pm (sandwiches available until late) and so you can choose whether to arrive in time to eat Dinner at the Hotel or on the way.
Needless to say, perhaps, but the Bar will be open 'til late.

On Saturday, after breakfast you will given a Road Book for the 'tour'. Should be a lot of fun, some great roads and a quiz, which will keep both driver and passenger alert. Lunch will be at a suitable hostelry on the route and you can expect to be back in Ballater between 4 and 5pm. Dinner will be at 8pm, not black tie, but will include a prize giving from the day's activities. The clocks will change that evening, giving an extra hour in either bed or bar.

On Sunday morning a very informal wash and shine concours will be held in the car park of the hotel. The rules of which will be published late on Saturday night and participation will of course be compulsory. Farewells after a lunch of Soup and Sandwiches allowing everyone to get home at a reasonable time.

The cost per person, including B&B on Friday night, DB&B on Saturday and S&S on Sunday will be £80. Note this does not include Dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday or any drinks.

More details and a booking form will be sent out in a couple of days. Meanwhile, to make a booking or if you have any questions please contact John Chesworth

UPDATE 29th Sept 2004

Application / Booking Forms are now available and need to be completed even if you have made a verbal or e-mail request. Please get them back to me, John Chesworth, as soon as possible. (contact details below)

To keep the cost down and help the Hotel we decided to have a pre-chosen menu for the Saturday Night Dinner. The menu is attached but you won't have to make up your mind until you arrive at the Hotel on the Friday evening.

Cayennes will be welcome and a special section of the Saturday "Tour" may be developed if there is sufficient interest

The Sunday morning wash and shine concours will bear absolutely no resemblance to any other club concours event. Cars (and their owners) will be judged on attitude as well as appearance. A full set of rules will be unavailable.

Porsches are for driving and the judges will be looking for serious evidence of use.

An '04' registered car on its 5th set of tyres and second engine or a rusty but well maintained 924 with 200k miles that is driven everyday would therefore find favour with the judges, as would a brown envelope left on the drivers seat marked for the judges' attention. Silver, black and other dark colours are now considered to be "common" and illustrative of a lack of individuality (attitude problem). Zymol is known to create artificial social barriers and will therefore not be welcomed. Furry dice, miniature football team shirts and CD's hanging from the interior rear view mirror will score well provided they were gifts from valued relatives or sponsors. However, evidence of money having been wasted on "poser" accessories such as Carbon fibre trim parts and aluminium coloured instrument bezels will be heavily marked down. Nodding dogs and crash helmets in the back window will be similarly marked down unless a full roll cage is fitted and the owner can demonstrate that it is too difficult to remove them.

Please complete the enclosed Application Form and get it back to me asap either by snail mail or e-mail.

Best Regards
