PCM 1 Telephone help

Hi All...

I have bought a 2002 911 carrera 4
It has what i believe is a PCM 1 unit in it.
It has a cassette player in the head/screen unit, and a seperate CD drive below for the Nav CD, along with a multi CD unit
under the hood...

The Telephone is the handset type on a cord, mounted to the left of the unit.

2 questions, Firstly is it legal to use this? I am unclear as to the legalities of dialing and holding??
I know you can hold such things as dictaphones etc.... and I know you can dial on a phone if it is mounted on the dash..

Secondly, Which Sim do i need, I have read somewhere that only O2 or Vodafone will work due to only having support for Analog, and not digital? I just tried an Orange sim, I got signal but the phone was crossed out?

Any help would be appreciated

Regards
Gary

Yes, PCM1 as you correctly describe is Vodaphone and O2 only....

Its a telephone= its illegal to use whilst driving- unless hands free.

That doesnt really help much...

My car is an 2002, so really should be a 16bit... but reading further down the post it seems that if I have a seperate CD drive (i do), then its 8 bit??

In this post: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=563953 I am referring to your specific car. Yes, you have PCM1, and yes, it it 16-bit.

Won't make any difference to the SIM card compatibility though, I'm afraid.
