PCM 2, CD HEAD UNIT & CHANGER ISSUES

Has anybody had issues with these units? I am experiencing two problems: 1) The PCM headunit will skip tracks if you hit a bump in the road, suggetsing the anti shock memory system isnt working on the vehicle? It will generally play fine 75% of the time. Also, the CDC-4 disc changer has various issues, such as not recognising all 6 discs in the changer, not changing discs to the next disc and skipping maybe 2 discs forward. These issues are all random and do not appear to have any pattern? I am going to try a new cartridge in the changer and see if that helps. Looking at Audio upgrades maybe!

I have experienced similar probs with not recognizing all cd's & put it down to dampness in unit.
Some say this happens with 'copied' discs but I gave mine a good spray of compressed air that you can get in a spray tin, cleaned cd's & not had a repeat of problem in a couple of years

thanks for the feedback. so, you sprayed compressed air directly into the CD changer whilst the cartridge was still in place? What about the main head unit, have you had any issues with that?

M241115!

I would try a CD cleaning disk in the head unit first. If that doesn't work, it is possible to change the CD mechanism, but not for the faint-hearted:

I tried a CD cleaning disk, but no joy. Might try another one just to be on the safe side. I can't open that link, but don't think I would be up to the task of changing it! I have ordered a new cartridge to try in the changer, so this might work. The CD changers are about £500 from Porsche, but about half that on ebay I think. thanks!

You may need to register on RennTech in order to see it.

If you don't fancy DIY, try Maple Audio, as they do a replacement drive service: http://www.mapleaudio.co.uk

No, took 6 cd changer out, sprayed the air into unit, cleaned disc & has been fine since....

not had any probs with sat nav cd drive

let's hope I've not just jinxed myself!![;)]

got the can of compressed air on order, got the cd head cleaner on order, got a new magazine to try in the changer too on order. Lets hope this does the trick! thanks for all the help and I hope you haven't jinxed yourself Sandy! ;-)

Just one more question folks, is it possible to play MP3's on CD on the head unit or CD changer? I can't get them to work?

No, it isn't. PCM users had to wait until 2006/7 before they could play MP3 CDs. Porsche are really on the ball with ICE technology - Not!
