PCM 3.1 Map update

I run a Panamera 970 with PCM 3.1. A few years ago I updated the PCM to v3.43 and the Maps to 2018-19 (v6.5.1) without issues. I would like to update the maps again to the latest version, but I am getting conflicting information. Apparently, if you run the latest maps on PCM 3.1 v3.43, there can be issues with zoom and some other features. Some sources say you can resolve this by upgrading to PCM v4.76, but other say you can't upgrade beyond v3.43. Has anyone any experience of this? I don't want to risk trying the update and screwing up the system.
