PCM 3 - TV and DVD - Pointless post

since picking my car up, ive been reading all the manuals and come across the dvd / tv bits, so tried a dvd in mine, you can hear it, just cant see it - does this mean this isnt activated or am i doing something wrong? ( I was sat on the drive doing this )

the reason I say this is pointless, how often are you actually going to want to watch a dvd in the car - unless you have a thing for pretending your 17 and hanging out at mcdonals of an evening, and too shy to talk to any of the other 17 year olds sitting in their cars watching dvds!

But its a gadget, and being male, having a gadget that isnt accessable causes sleepless nights even if you wont / dont / cant ever use it

I beleive but am not 100% sure that DVDs will only play sound unles you bought the optional TV tuner module for PCM.

Hi John

Just picked up the post re the DVD soa bot of a late responce. If you play a music DVD you will get the benefit of the digital sound encoding on the disc when you go to the options menu. Check it out and change the settings to one of digital surround programs and listen to the difference. My own car is also fitted with the TV tuner (specced by its previous owner) which you can only watch when stationery, and assuming you get a clean signal. Having said that, in the year I have had my car ive watched it three times and would not have missed it if it wasn't there

Hope this helps

I retro fitted TV tuners DVD players and even a playstation to my VW which also had factory fit navigation. I found that TV reception in a car is very tempremental and certainly not suited to reception on the move. The DVD picture is clear but due to size of screen you tend to lose a lot of the background detail , so can miss some parts of the plot in some films. The basic playstation or games consoles can play on 5 or 7" screens but the menus on the newer hi res games consoles are almost impossible to see on the small screens due to their size. Anyone with an i phone or internet capable phone will know only too well of the issues viewing web pages on a small screen. The same goes true for car computers or games consoles / TV and DVD in a car.

A few apps for your phone , a nintendo or portable DVD player or book are probably the best way to entertain yourself in the car whilst waiting for the wife to return from shopping .
