PCM Handsfree

I have the PCM1 system on my recently purchased 996 car and have worked out most of the functions apart from the phone system (I am waiting for the dealer to send me the PCM instruction book)

The car has the handset fitted. I have worked out how to make calls but cannot work out the handsfree system. When the call is answered I can hear the person on the end of the line through the speaker system but they cannot hear me unless I pick the handset up.

Any ideas/instructions/advice.

I could be talking rubbish since I have not used a car with a handset, but:

I would guess there are several possibilities:
1. There is an option, that is accessible through the PCM screen menu system, to tell the car that you want to use the handset. The remote party comes through the speakers, so you can hear there is a call, but the mic in the dash is not active. When you pick up the handset, the audio is routed through the handset and the mic on the handset is active. When you pick up the handset is the downlink audio routed through the handset (can you hear the other party only through the handset)?
2. The mic. in the dash is knackered. Everything is fine, just the mic in the dash is not working for some reason.
3. There is a magnetic reed switch in the handset. This is how the car knows that the handset is in the cradle and which way to route the audio. If this is defective, then the car will think you are holding the handset and the mic in the handset will be active. However, the remote party should not be audible through the speakers.
4. The carkit is defective - loose connection, harware problem, etc.

I would go with 1 first, then ask the OPC to check 2.
