PCM Options - Individual Memory and Sport Display

Does anyone know how you get the options "Individual Memory" (under the 'Main' menu of PCM) and "Sport Display" (under the 'Trip' menu of PCM)?

I would have assumed these come with the 'Sport Chrono' option but my car has SC but neither of the PCM options.

Additionally, I would presume both PCM options to be software only, so does that mean these can be added by OPC retrospectively?

I am not sure I understand fully the question, but there are few "Individual memories" in PCM
First - personal log book. This one does not come as standard with PCM and must be ordered as an option when ordering a car. Not sure you can retrofit it.

Second - Individual trip parameters (personal display). Pres TRIP, pres OPTION select personal adaptation and chose parameters you want to be displayed

Third - sport display memory (indeed only available with Sport Chrono).

You start recording whem you activate CHRONO in your board computer and all you recordings will be stored in memory and can be analysed later. There is quite comprehensive explanation in driver's manual and in PCM manual

Hope it helps

I should have mentioned it's a PCM 2.1.

The "Individual Memory" option should allow me to change the temp setting associated with the key. Daylight running light activation, how long the Home light function stays on, etc.

I thought buying a car with Sport Chrono would enable this menu and the "Sport Display" menu in the PCM but I don't have either.

Can anyone else with a 2005 car with Sport Chrono confirm they have these options in their PCM menu? I don't know if it makes a difference but I do not have fully electric memory seats or multi-function steering wheel.

I'm pretty sure I have these options available to me.. [&:]
Its been a while so will have to take a look for you..

I vaguely remember that the early 2005 cars with PCM and the Sports Chrono (Wart) on the dash came with the option (or not is you should so choose) of 'Sports Chrono Plus' which included the Individual Memory option. I also believe that from 2006 that if you had PCM and Sports Chrono then you had to have the 'plus' option (Non-optional)

However it might be the case that either the PCM was added post delivery or has been replaced since new and incorrectly re-coded.

Anyhow if the original poster sends me the cars VIN I will check to see if what options he should have on his PCM.

So the OPC agree that I should have the "Sport Display" option with SC and that they needed to check the "iPass Codes" or similar to reconfigure the PCM to recognise it was installed in a car with SC. The technician also asked me if the PCM unit had ever been replaced. Checking with the previous owner of the car he was sure it hadn't, which is strange.
However, the OPC advised me that "Individual Memory" was an option and did not come as standard just because you had SC.

On the other hand, I have just spoken to a colleague at work who has had his Cayman S since new (2005). He spec'd SC and got both "Sport Display" and "Individual Memory" without having to add any additional options above SC.

I've sent Nick_USA a PM with my VIN. Look forward to whatever you can find out for me.

Marc,

sorry for the delay in replying caused by my travels and the firewall in China.

I can confirm that your car has option 640 (Sports Chrono Plus) and therefore should have the individual memory functions enabled on the PCM.

These functions should be accessible from the MAIN PCM screen by pressing the SET option. However, they are only available when the car is stationary.

Your dealer should be able to enable these for you after obtaining a code from Germany. I do not know if they will charge you for this service, that will depend on the dealer and your relationship with them.

Thanks a lot for checking that out for me Nick.

My car is due in with the OPC tomorrow morning, so I will have a chat with them then and see what they can do.

OPC managed to get to the bottom of this. It looks like my car lost the coding for "Individual Memory" and "Sport Display" at some point in its life. They were able to reinstate the 2 menu options by recoding the car from scratch.

They are unsure what caused the problem but presume it to be some sort of "external influence", as they call it. They presume it might have been caused when the battery might have ran low or went flat previously. This means it was not covered by the extended warranty. I was told sometimes they see cars where the heated seats or the rear demister are lost from the coding due to a flat battery

What do you guys think about this? I find it strange that the car should lose its coding because the battery goes flat and loses certain functions. If it does though, then I believe this should be covered by the warranty. Particularly, since the car is going in again to have part of the loom changed under warranty because of low voltage during startup.

I would agree with your conclusion on the warranty.... however they do seem to be a clause of their own [&:]
I think its poor that it should lose any software information for what ever cause..

If the batery has been replaced the car defaults to its memory settings. Its possible that the pcm can be coded without being configured afterward as a result you lose the setting on loss of power from the battery. The way to overcome these issues is to ensure the gateway/ pcm parameters are uploaded into the PWIS and then configured before reloading back into the car. This is called a vehicle handover procedure in the workshop guide. It was necessary to have this handover procedure done when i had the MF steering wheel coded as without it , the PCM and gateway lost their settings on power loss from the battery.
