PCM Phone - Address Book Help

I've got the PCM phone option, but I can't get-on with the address book/phone book. I don't keep my numbers on the SIM card - they're stored in the (Nokia) phone memory - that's because it saves multiple numbers to a name, such as mobile, home etc, something that doesn't work on the SIM card. So, when I put my card in the PCM, I first copied all the numbers onto the SIM card and then into the PCM system. However, when I returned the SIM to the Nokia, I deleted all the numbers again off the SIM - otherwise you get two entries per name - but everytime I put the card in to the PCM since there are no numbers in the address book.

I've been repeatedly through the manual, which is not very user-friendly, and I believed that once you uploaded SIM details into the Address book it would save them to either a Public or Private Address book and recall the numbers everytime the SIM is back in the PCM.

I've uploaded again and again, changed every setting on the PCM and INFO screens, even restored factory defaults, but I'm having no luck.

Anyone got any clues ? Or do I just have to live with storing my phone book on the SIM card ?

I've gone through all sorts of different options and have resigned myself to manually entering numbers into the PCM address book.

I think the 997 is a great car but Porsche have got some things so wrong - this is one of them.

One solution is to get a second sim from your mobile company and store your numbers on that for the car. I've hooked up three sims and can switch between them with a one number shortcut. Works very well. Saves fiddling around wth the sim slot as well.

I too have just got a mulitsim with Vodafone but I can't get the PCM to recognise the code to switch between sims. The Vodafone code is *131*# but the PCM just says that connection has failed. The code works ok on my normal mobile.

I can set the PCM to take incoming calls via my mobile but it would be more useful if I could set it in the car as well.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Ashley

You are doing nothing wrong. It's been the same on mine for a couple of years so I just got on with it!

Rob,

I have played with this function a couple of times an it is quite tricky. I would suggest going about this in the following way:
1. Copy only your default numbers to the sim card from your nokia.
2. Put the sim card in the PCM and choose the copy from SIM to PCM option
3. Go into address book config and select "public" address book (which is the PCM)
4. Remove your SIM and delete all info from your SIM using the delete fucntion from your Nokia
5. Insert your empty SIM back into the PCM
6. Because you have selected "Public" address book as your default address book the names and numbers should now come up when you select Phonebook in the telephone menu.

Best of luck, do not hesitate to shout if you stil have problems...
