PCM - Phone Option

Hi Guys,

I have ordered a Boxster S which should be available on the 1st March. I will be using the car for work so the Sat Nav is a huge stress relief. I was told by my dealer that he thought the Telephone option was a pain in the butt so didn't order it, but having visited another dealer it seams like it would be a great option for ease of use. Do you think these options go hand in hand, or will most people not bother with the phone? Anyone know whether there will a Blue Tooth option?

Thanks allot

Ben

If you like taking your SIM out every time you use it! My mate has a 9996 and it is great apart from the aforementioned!!

great apart from the aforementioned!!

Thanks, but I believe if u have Vodafone you can get dual sims.

Does anyone know how much it is to retro fit by Porsche, as it is listed as an option on their T Equipment page?

Don't know about retrofit, but I would serously reccomend the phone system with the sat nav. I have it in my 03 Boxter, and although you do need to have a sim in the car (not blue tooth) you can operate the phone from either the main sat nav display or by using the computer stalk on the stering column.

If your using your car mainly for business, and like most people in business use a phone like it's going out of fashion, phone Porsche NOW. It might not be to late to get them to add it to your build.

Hope this has confirmed your opion.

I got a phone on my car and agree having to have a seperate sim is a pain. I do regret not ordering a handset for a number of reasons. The phone can't be heard at high speed with the roof down and as we have done a few rally type things to the south of France it would have been great fo the passenger to be able to use the phone. Also if you have a passenger you don't neccessarily want them to hear all of your conversations!

Our solution is to buy a pay as you go phone both here and in France for my Boxster and for my wifes Cayenne. I suppose it would be cheaper just to but a sim but the phones come in handy.

I have seen a BMW factory fitted setup which works with Bluetooth and seems excellent but Porsche seem unwilling to bring their phone or their satnav systems up to date with the latest tecnology.

Agree. Get the phone with seperate 'pay as you go' sim. Agree also about Micra. Lovely little car.

Guys thanks for your thoughts on this.

The issue I have now is that the Car I have ordered will be delivered with the PCM without the phone option on 1st March. If I cancel that order and order one from a different dealer with the phone kit, I will have to pay the extra money £250 for the adaptive sports seat as they have gone up to £1900, and will have to way until May for a Car. Do u think it is worth doing this, or would u take the car and just use a regular hands free?

Thanks Ben

March and April and some of May without the new car?

I don't think so.

While the phone is a nice facility driving the car is the point of the exercise for me.
