PCM Phone SIM

I now we've had various threads about a second SIM for our cars, however I came across an alternative that may offer an answer for some.

Orange (the others may) do a service called phone everywhere.
It allows you at no cost to have your call diverted to another Orange phone (your car) or a landline, the call trasfers seemlessly and the caller would be unaware, if unanswered it still goes to your own answerphone.
By diverting calls to your phone it would still mean you can have your own phone turned on and not have to swap SIM cards.

Hopefully it may be of use to some..
I now have a PAYG SIM in the car and just divert my calls.

You can do that with any network by simply setting the divert options. I have my handset divert to the car if phone is switched off. Car diverts to handset voicemail if it is switched off ELSE divert to car voicemail if busy. Works a treat, but you need to understand your phone/divert settings.

I think the emphasis of Gary's find is - diverting at no cost - diverting normally costs you money.

The best solution is to subscribe to Orange's Single Number SIM.

You will receive two SIMs with the same mobile number. One stays in your handset and the other stays in the car. If the car is switched on, any calls will go directly to the car SIM. If the car is off, calls will go to the handset. Both SIMs share the same voicemail and have the same caller ID. The perfect solution.

Sunil, that is the perfect answer.. however there is a cost to that option, I think its £3-5 per month

Whilst its certainly not going to break the bank, for those who don't swap between phone that often the £36 + may be spent better elsewhere...
At least we are aware of the options - as I pointed out in my OP

Guy's, I posted yonks ago, regarding getting another PAYG sim (Free as long as you put £10 on it in the O2 shop). I then set up a call divert shortcut on my mobile to the new PAYG sim in the PCM. Two button pushes on my O2 Sony Ericcson phone immediatly diverts all voice calls to the car phone. When I get out of the car, two button pushes and I'm back to my mobile. The good thing is that you do not need to give out your carphone number, as all calls to your mobile are seamlessly diverted to the car. At no time have I (or the caller) been charged for this facility, and this includes no extra charges for non O2 network calls.

Also, I have never had any issues with the onboard phone.

Cheers

Paul
