It isn't so easy on the 997 with Bose, because they have fibre optic inputs to the amplifier. Basically, you have 3 options:

a) Bypass the amplifier. Autoleads do an adapter cable which connects the new head unit directly to the speakers.
b) Replace the amplifier, and possibly the speakers (Bose uses different impedances to standard car speakers).
c) Fit a fibre-optic interface between new head unit and the Bose amp. The only one I know about is the NAV-TV MOST-HUR.

a) is cheap, but you lose the amp. The other two are expensive (£500-ish?). Plus the head unit, of course. There is such an array of head units available it is difficult to make a recommendation, but if you are a bit techie, the Pioneer AppRadio, and Parrot Asteroid are interesting.
