PCM System error

When I turn the ignition on, the radio or CD comes on as normal and then after about 10 seconds the PCM screen shows "System error: Unknown not available."
Eveything works as normal - Sat Nav, phone etc but you cannot access the main radio screen until you have acknowledged the System error by pressing Confirm. It has been doing this for the last 3 or 4 days.

Anyone any ideas what the problem may be? Everything seems to work so it is not a big issue just annoying.

I'll start by saying I know very little about PCM, but it sounds to me like the system is looking for a device it cannot find. Has anything been tinkered with recently, or is there anything else that isn't working? Depending on the model year and PCM version, it will be connected to other systems in the car which may have an effect. A PST2 check should show up any faults recorded in memory, which is probably the best place to start.

Thanks Richard, I guess you are right, I will have to get a PST check carried out. In answer to your question there have not been any changes or additions that I can think of that could be responsible.
The alarm went off at 5.00am this morning, much to the joy of the neighbours, which has never happened before so I am not sure if there is a connection.
