PCM update

My Boxster 2.7 was first registered in May 2006 and came supplied with a PCM DVD dated 04.2005. The DVD is marked 997.642.255.03.7L5.919.859.AP.
I have recently got hold of a newer DVD (10.2006 marked 997.642.255.05.7L5.919.859.AP). My question is can I just load the new DVD and accept the software update or is there something else I need to do? I've read other posts about having to load software updates via CD first - is this only if youre trying upgrade from pre PCM2 to post PCM2??

PS If you press the "main" and "trip" buttons on the PCM panel together you can check software levels loaded on the system. In my case of the 5 items listed (PCM, System, CD changer, Navigation and Phone) all of them except for the Navigation has something like a warning triangle sign. The navigation entry has a tick. Everytthing seems to be working but why the warning triangles?? [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I have a 2.7 1st registered in Jan 2006 running the same PCM DVD.

When I push the main and trip buttons to pull up the software revision menu I have all ticks, the screen says software version 3.2. - I should add that I do have the CD changer and phone module fitted to the car

My question is does a later disc fix any issues with the satnav / phone that make it a worthwhile addition or does it just give slightly newer mapping data?? There was a forum devoted to Audi's RNS system that gave info on the disc revisions, does a similar knowledge base exists for PCM systems fitted in the 987

Also outside of OPC's where do people source discs from??

If your car is running software level 3.2 , then I beleive there is only one more update available which supposedly fixes some of the bugs with the phone and does a self check of the internal CD drive , as these were problematical reading MP3 files and CD's on the later PCM 2.1's built after mid 2005. The Update CD is available from your Porsche dealer for a few pounds and self updates from the PCM2.1 CD drive. Earlier PCM units built before mid 2005 running the software version 1 and 2 and map DVD 10 2004 need a more comprehensive update involving 2 CD's which cannot be bought separately from the dealer , only as part of the new MAP DVD update. The early PCM 2.1 units built before mid 2005 CANNOT play MP3 files and the update can only take the units as far as software level 3, though the updates do supposedly address the telephone issues as well.
The new map DVD's offer a wider coverage in europe and more POI such as garages and restaurants. Each map DVD also includes a software update for the navigation unit , so regarding the question in the first post, yes , you just load the CD and accept the update.
To get the best from your system you should ideally be running the most up to date software in both modules. Maps can be bought from E bay for reasonable money, but avoid using bit torrent versions or copies as these can give disk errors when you need them most. There are problems with trying to go to the 2007 map DVD from a 2005 map DVD, ideally you need the 2006 map DVD as well.If you want to update from a 2004 map DVD you also need the PCM CD update first.
Using bit torrent sources to update the PCM is a definite no no as you not only need the software but also the procedure , and if the software is in anyway incomplete the PCM is useless and cannot be reloaded , meaning a new PCM ! Send me a message if you want more details , but for info the latest PCM 2.1 map disk is May 2007.
