Went to Shelsley Walsh Breakfast Club yesterday and spotted a 997.1 Cab with a replacement PCM. It was a rather smart Sony unit. I have seen Kenwood kits on the internet which look rather good. My car will be out of warranty in July this year and I would like to replace the old steam-driven unit. Has anyone undertaken such an update? Will OPC's carry out this upgrade or will it have to be carried out by an independent specialist?

I will certainly jump on the official upgrade when available. I have heard too many stories of little things not working with the unofficial upgrades like the Sports Chrono integration. I do wonder why it is taking so long. Is it the fact that the 997 hasn’t moved into the official Classic category yet? Is it the different button design? Bose integration etc? Either way the navigation and music replay options slightly spoil a brilliant 911.

Im sure this point has been covered before but i cant seem to find any previous posts. Are there a few aftermarket options available for the gen 1 997? i am looking for a decent unit to stream music, bluetooth connection etc but would like to retro fit the existing unit as and when i sell the car.
I've also read some stories where integration of aftermarket units have had faults or loss of functions - particularly if you have BOSE.
I recently got a quote to add DAB, bluetooth and music streaming whilst keeping my existing PCM2 head unit - I want to keep the originality and also could not find an option that wasn't primarily touchscreen which I'm trying to avoid... I was quoted from a reputable installer with a history of Porsche installs £595 for DAB + £695 to add bluetooth and music streaming - for £1300 I think I'll wait till Porsche bring out a new unit similar to PCCM for 996. Hopefully we won't be waiting too long [8|]
