ok some questions i can't find answers to.
did pcm1 automatically have the tel enabled . i.e. if it's there should it work with a sim card in the slot. The reason I ask is that mine says emergency calls only and won't find my network? but it does recognise the phone number on the sim and the sim pin.
Should the cd rom drive play audio cd's . Things i read seem to differ on this. When i try mine does'nt read audio discs but has no trouble with the nav cd?
I am sure i can't be the only one to ask.
 
I may be wrong but I always understood that you had to have a vodafone sim? I don't think all networks will work.

Never tested a music cd on the cd rom drive as I had a cd changer under the bonnet on my 996 so I never tried it.
 
thanks rob. I plan on getting a changer when funds allow(only got the car a week ago !) . I thought i had heard similar about the sim but it seems a little crazy. Will be a tad annoyed to find that being the case having gone out and bought a sim and topped it up !

I also have had problems with the mobile unit. (Still have) The first thing as I understand not all cars came this the mobile unit fitted. This unit is fitted under the driver's seat. Without this the phone will not work I my case I know the phone has worked I tried three different mobile providers Sims but all the PCM unit says is that the "Phone will be switch on" but never is.

I gave up in the end and bought a Blue-tooth hands free unit as Porsche could not tell me why my phone would not work apart from replacing the PCM (£500) and / or the mobile unit. Again another £500
 
Thanks for replies. I have done a bit more research. I have some answers. The PCM1 unit is apprently a 900mhz unit . There are only two providers of sims that work on the 900mhz network Vodaphone and and BT cellnet or whatever they are now. I tried my other halves Vodaphone sim and hey presto it works fine. So I will need to get another sim.
The pcm manual does seem to imply that the cd rom will NOT play audio cd's just the nav cd. Again seems bonkers functionality to me.

Were you able to obtain a 900mhz SIM card that works? If so could you let me know where from. I have tried but without any luck
