PCM2 map updates (disks)

For anyone that is interested and doesn't view the 996 forum regularly....

Hi, I have just bought an '05 car - do I have PCM2? From what I can see Porsche aren't supporting this with updates, is that right? I wanted to get an upgrade before going through Europe. Thanks

If I have a 2.1 version of the PCM on my 05 Boxster S (I'm not sure where to look to find out whether that's so!), is it possible to up-date the firmware as well as the maps?

From a quick review of net sites searched by using the satnav disk # +000.044.900.92 , it appears that the Germans and the Spanish have similar problems with updating thev PCM disks1!

I'll sign a petition if it will help Porsche give something back to the members in return for all that cash they took when selling the PCM systems.

On a German site the following Disk issues were listed:

911/Boxster :- 000.044.900.88

911/Boxster/Cayenne - Update for Model 2003(PCM 2.0) :- 000.044.900.92

Porsche PCM 1.0 :- 000.044.900.82

Hope this helps someone!

Note: my PCM is in a 2003 Boxster and the disks are:- 996.642.030.00 ????????

What map DVD do you have at present. if its a 10.2004 version then you need to update the PCM and buy a new map DVD too. If you have a 04 2005 mapo DVd or late rthen just buy a new map DVD. E mail me if you want more info on this.

this seems ridiculous. is there any way that the club can put some pressure on Porsche to keep updates coming or at least free up navteq to do so? also anyone know if it is possible to put safety cameras on at all?

Agree that Porsche need to release Navteq from their single source agreement , once Porsche decide to no longer sell the software through their dealers. Unfortunately you need to be able to uncode and modify the source code on the DVD to be able to add speed cameras. It's pointless anyway , as I doubt anyone could be bothered to go through the procedure on a monthly basis , making the facility useless as its always out of date. Forget the speed camera application and buy an inforad or road angel device with online updates for this facility.

this may be a silly question but what stops you buying an updated navteq branded map for another car? are they all coded disks for specific pcm type units?

Porsche closed the door on that route by getting Navteq and Becker to use a bespoke code for the disks on their units. Result , porsche maps won't work in any other car and vice versa. Only the early PCM 2 units fitted to the 996/986 have the possibility of a code hack to allow other vehicle brands map CD's to be used in a porsche.

I think that only works on PCM1. That's what satnavshop do - use GM/Opel disks, and get maps that are far more up to date than anything you can get for PCM2.0.
