PCM2 maps that include Greece?

I am looking for PCM2 compatible maps that include Greece and unfortunately the local Porsche dealer tells me that the CD-based version never included Greece. Can anyone confirm that the latest CD-based version available does not include Greece?

Given this, I was thinking maybe I can rip the relevant maps from the DVD based version which as far as I know do include Greece in order to build a CD that includes Greece. Can anyone confirm that the 997 DVD based PCM includes Greece?

A third alternative would be to find another manufacturer with compatible maps. Does anyone know of any other car manufacturer with PCM2 compatible CDs?

It is really annoying that Porsche has the maps but does not release them in CD format so that 996 owners can benefit from the PCM navigation!

May I ask what version your DVD is? Perhaps the latest DVD includes Greece (or some other John Travolta film[:)])

Hey Michael
I have found myself in the same situation some time ago...
Eventually I decided that it is much simpler, much less expensive and much more efficient to purchase a top of the range independent/specialist Sat/Nav system, which I can move from car to car, easily update over the 'net and get the maps from Greece.
Even if you buy a system in the UK, with Greece supposedly included, the cover is the bare minimal, whereas from Greece is much more extensive.
Cheers

PS What ever happened with LHD Porsche? Did you get one from there?

Thanks you for your replies. I would swap the PCM unit for an aftermarket one but I am not sure it is as easy as it sounds. I have the Bose option and I have read some horror stories about swaping out MOST modules. If anyone can suggest a unit that has a factory-look fit that would be great. On the other hand, I think I will try a little bit longer to make PCMII work properly, just for the fun of it.

ps. I bought a car from a local dealer mainly because he was willing to exchange my Z4.

I can confirm that the latest version does have Greece maps.

Firstly, I asked my friend to check for a couple of very small towns which it couldn't find; suggesting, as PGAdamopoulos said, that the coverage is basic

Secondly, all attempts that I am aware of to break the link between the cd / dvd software and the firmware of the PCM unit have failed. So I am dubious as to whether you can rip the files from your existing CD (and the Greek map file from a DVD) all onto a new CD and then get it to be accepted by the PCM.

If you succeed, there will be plenty of folk waiting to hear the good news [;)]

Apparently there is also a CD version which includes Greece (08/2005) . This came as a surprise since the official info I had (Porsche Greece) was that there is no CD containing Greece and only DVD-based systems work in Greece. Now that I have found out I cannot trust what the Porsche dealer tells me, I will need to start from square 1 and ask all the questions here or in other relevant forums and see where that takes me. []

So, my first question would be: What is the latest CD-Rom version for European Maps? Is 08/2005 the latest one?
And the second: Anyone knows if Porsche will continue coming up with new CDs or is this the last version ever?

The 08/2005 CD does indeed include Greece but only major roads. It is completely useless. I am still trying to figure out if his is the latest CD available or if Porsche has produced a newer version.

Thanks for the reply!

Like MR PGAdamopoulos said i have a mio pda-gps with PN destinator for Greece which is very very good, and i use the PCM only when i drive abroad in Europe.

If PN destinator maps could be used with PCM ( and other cars navigator systems as well ) they will sell out in a few hours!
