PDK issue

Hi all,
Collected my 997.2 turbo pdk last sat. Today driving from my train station to home, an error message 'emergency transmittion run' flashed on my dash. The gear red dot was flashing and the car lost power and coast.

I tried putting it to park and back to drive. Still no drive, i had to reatart the car and everything seems to be back to normal...

Is there something wrong with the pdk and if so what is the likely issue?

Any help would be much appreciated.
 
I hear the temp sensor in the PDF box is a know. Fault that can cause these issues. If that's the case an error log will have recorded the fault code.
 
Hmm..wonder if this is why the launch control is not working. You've just bought it from a PC, let them sort out the problem.
 
I wonder too... problem is the dealer i bought from is a good 1.5 hours away. Whereas silverstone is only 20 mins away. Does it make a difference if i go to silverstone and use my warranty to cover these?

You can go to any OPC with your OPC warranty. Silverstone has dropped its service levels in recent times though... they dropped the ball with me and have with others too.


 
I just wrote a serious email to porsche west london where i purchased the turbo from to request for a swift response.
I expect a better quality vehicle than this as this a an approved vehicle...
 
To right you should, but it is highly likely that the PDK sensor failed literally not long after you picked it up - these things happen.
Silverstone should be able to sort promptly, which will hopefully restore some of the lost faith.
 
West london agrees to squeeze the car in for tomorrow morning for a diagnostics. I think this is a safety issue as well. Imagine the car lost drive on a motorway without hard shoulder. How am i supposed to restart the car to fix it...
 
I had this exact same issue on my Cayman (with PDK) and it became more frequent, to the point it was every time I drove the car. I already knew that I had a misfire, caused by one the coilpacks, so I replaced them all. 1500 miles and 3 months later, the 'emergency transmission run' error hasn't happened since. I'm not technical enough to understand why the worn out coilpacks trigger the 'emergency transmission run' error, but that was the cause, in my case.

I had a look online and it's a very common problem actually. The result ranging from bad battery to faulty sensors to whole unit replacement. I am surprised that this isnt as well known as it should as i have searched for pdk reliability before purchasing the pdk and i found nothing. Only when i seach for this code i found pages of issues from boxster to gt3.

The service manager has come back to me and arranged a 8am appointment tomorrow. Will keep you guys updated. It's annoying as the journey will be 1.5 hours. But as this was purchased less than a week ago, i think they will put more effort in fixing this than an average opc. Lets hope so
 
Get them to trailer it! Why should you put on the miles and waste your fuel?
If they won't Theyll at least drive it for you (if you trust them)

Anyway , i arrived 8am on the dot for the appointmeny. waited till 840am before the service managet arrived... not very pleased

He put the car on the computer, found no permanent warning , only a temp one with pdk temp overheat. Which it says 2 days ago. Which kind of conincide with when the light turned on. Only thing is i was only driving it gently from the station.

I asked for a pdk software update at least after driven 2 hours there. He said there isnt an equipment to do it. Nor is it possible. (I know...) he only said that only bring it back again if light on again as he can't do anytbing about it for now.

For the launch control issue though, he showed me how to do it and it worked. It must have been me then. So thats my bad on that.

From what he told me. I would save my energy and go to silverstone next time ...

 
I've has this exact issue on my C4S 997.2 and was all fixed under warranty. It's essentially an over sensitive oil sump temp sensor. This was apparently happening a lot on early PDK models, so Porsche spent a lot of time researching the issue as they were replacing huge amounts of PDK units. This resulted in them developing a repair kit. I had mine done despite the alert resolving itself after a restart but was a well documented problem and I had no issue getting the repair done at Hatfield OPC, whom I really rate despite some varying views on here.

Good luck with the resolve, but I would insist this repair is carried out under your warranty.
 
Many thanks for the info. Do you have any references for that fix? Did they do a formal recall? I would raise it with silverstone next time. It hasnt happened again since last week. So i am not too concerned.
 
No recall that I'm aware of, just a well trodden path as far as I was told. I think it would tend to happen as it did fo me when the car is up to operating temp, being driven sedately and then you accelerate hard, if the gearbox temp jumps too quickly for the sensor then it generates this issue. I was informed the sensor was redeveloped, hence the repair kit available under warranty. All the info as I remember it, hope this helps.
 
Thats very useful. Coz i drove exactly like you said. Very gently from the station to up until i was near to where i live and floored it a couple of times and that happened...
