PDK or Sports Shift Manual on R ?

For a car to be used on road and track, with PCCB's and other lightweight spec, PDK or manual ??

Debate ! (Which is what I am doing [;)])

I love PDK and I'm not very good at changing gear, so I'd go PDK - but with Sport Chrono - so its not a cheap option.

PDK- but I would say that wouldn't I?![;)] Brilliant both on track and on the road (so long as you have sport chrono +). Whack the lever over to the left, hit the sport button and paddle away to your hearts content. Drive the car on the revs (just like the "manual"), seamless quicker - than - manual changes with virtually no loss of forward thrust[:)] But, as ever, you have to drive both and see what floats your boat.

ORIGINAL: Mark Bennett Manual PDK is heavy as well as no fun [:)]
Whilst I am a total manual fan for the fun and personal involvement the PDK does offer more speed, more mpg, and allegedly no need to ever change the clutches! [:-] At the end of the day you need to really try the PDK for at least 24 hours and then the manual option before concluding which suits you the best

There's a reason the GT3 only comes in manual: Driver Involvement and surely this is what the R is all about.

Quite a useful discussion here [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=494638&mpage=5&key=&#532010]clicky[/link] May be worth a look. Upshot is those who have it - prefer PDK. Those who don't say manual. There aren't too many drivers more involved with their motors than in WRC and GP - and I don't see many of them wiggling sticks about. [;)] Regards, Clive

For me the Caymen R would be a reason to test the latest technology from Porsche. I would hate to be stuck in the past, having eulogised the beguiling features of the compact lightweight, 964RS (N-GT), 993RS, GT3 MkI CS and 996 GTR (S2). The 996 GTR weighs 1100 Kilos. Yes I can use a manual stick, but that isn't the test. How good is PDK ? I weigh 60 kilos, so can stand the extra 25 kilos of the PDK if it's good enough .... ! I am told (by Richard Attwood) that the integrated PDK / Sports Chrono / PSM systems can learn from the driver and adjust to optimise the complete package, driver included ....now that could be really interesting ...

p.s. Sometimes I don't hang around ...

although I think yours is slightly higher off terra firma![:)] I love my other toy which is basic in the extreme but think PDK is excellent too. I also don't buy into the "you're not connected/involved/having fun without a gearknob" argument either. You've just got to have a play and see what you think although it does take a little while to get the best from it.

Yes but for me there is a difference between racing and driving otherwise we'd all be on the Nissan GT-R forum ;) We're going to have to agree to disagree on this folks [:D] Hats off to Porsche for still offering a great manual.

Stiffer roll bar or larger passenger would be my recommendation. Alan - you just need a few more good lunches. [;)] Regards, [:D] Clive

Is the disappearance of the pic in my post down to Tinypic or the Forum or ?? My computer ?? It's back ! Just posted a Photobucket version --- please excuse me for leaving it there, at least then I'll know where to look for the glitch :)
