PDK Overtemp

A week ago I was cruising down the M1 and nearing the junction with the A43 when i had an over temperature warning come up which then cleared and so I pulled off and checked in case something had blown onto the front and blanked an intake, nothing amiss so I drove to the Silverstone centre for a diagnostic, this was done and an intermittent sensor fault identified, the car was booked in for a few days later to allow time for them to get the replacement parts and I drove on, to return midweek, the repair was done but the PET diagram shows a control module internal to the casing and not individual sensors, all very easy to access with no need to remove the transaxle but it makes me curious, if an individual sensor would have been replaced or a module. Does anyone here have the necessary expertise on the PDK?

Not of great concern as it was covered under warranty and drives brilliantly but I am curious.

One thing I was impressed with at the Silverstone Centre was that before the car went into the workshop customers can now opt to take a look underneath on a lift in a separate bay which is normally used for vehicle alignment, the first time that I had looked underneath this car and very pleased with the overall condition.

Can't really help Kevan but I would think that for access purposes, any sensors/control units would be mounted outside the transmission.

The PET diagram Illustration 901-03 seems to show that the PDK control unit (item 7) is located towards the rear of the car, most probably in the engine bay.

Good to hear that Silverstone got the problem sorted quickly and interesting to hear that they gave you an opportunity to look under the car yourself, something other PCs could take on board.

Thanks Jeff but they were accessing the transmission underside around what appeared to be 320-05 item 11 -14 area which is the internal hydraulic control unit but I couldn't really stand and watch the whole procedure. They drained at least some of the ATF and topped it up later so it was definitely into the transmission itself, Interesting that the PET shows only one unit which has seven what appear to be terminals along one side probably to operate the gear selectors. There seems to be more to this unit than the PET would indicate.

Thanks for pointing out the location of the electronics side.
