PDK Problems!

Hi everyone

Writing this on behalf of my Father who has recently bought a new boxster. He is having a problem with the gearbox where upon reaching a stop and then moving again the gear selection is 1st but it doesn't engage initially and then it kicks in and propels the car forward with quite a jump. This is a little dangerous at roundabouts and the like as you move to go and get nothing from the car then it jumps forward when you least expect it. If you actually stop then there is a massive clunk ( technical i know ) when the gear engages. Car been in and as always the dealeer cant find anything or has and isn't saying.

Anyone heard of any similar problem
Thanks for any help as he is getting little help elsewhere.

Cheers
Simon

The Cayman I borrowed last week exhibited the same thing - except the clunk. Seems to be a "feature" of PDK.

Seems you aren't alone: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=27344&hl=

They say there is a software update, so maybe that's worth looking into.

There's really no reason why the dealer should deny a fault if there is one since he will get the job of rectifying it and get paid by Porsche for doing so.

Clearly, your Father is worried and he should go back to the dealer and ask to speak either to the Dealer Principal or Workshop Manager.

Take them out for a run in the car to demonstrate the fault.

If they agree the fault is there then it needs to be sorted. If they think there is no fault to correct, request your concerns are placed on record so the matter can be dealt with later if necessary. You can always ask for Porsche GB technical to inspect it for a second opinion.

Be firm but fair. Dad is a valuable customer and should be treated as such.

Good luck.

Regards,

Clive

What you describe is not normal with the PDK although similar problems have been discussed on the forum before. On my C2S, which is now over 6000 miles, the pull away has always been smooth and certainly no massive clunks! I can trickle it forward or just welly it and there is little or no hesitation and no sense that it's not in gear when it shows "1" on the display. On a previous thread there was discussion about the gear disengaging when stationary and the brake pedal depressed. I did a little test and held the car on the footbrake for 3 minutes and when it was released the car started moving forward, so clearly the gear was still engaged.
From a technical point of view I have no idea what the PDK does when the car is at rest and "D" or "M" selected but what you describe does not how I have experienced the tranny to function. I would keep on at the dealer - get your dad to take the service manager out for a drive and demonstrate the problem.

I think the car has already had the software update or been re-programmed to try to alleviate the problem but first time back out the same thing. He is naturally a little hesitant when pulling onto roundabouts and out of junctions and this info has been really helpful and will aid his discussions with the dealership.

Many thanks all.
Simon
