PDK - throttle blip on changing gear.

When I drove a 981 Cayman with 2.7 litre engine and PDK gearbox I enjoyed the throttle blip it did when changing down - you'd think that a man of my age would have grown out of such juvenile pleasures, but I'd like my next Cayman to be able to do that. Is it only the 981 Caymans that have that feature or do the 987.2 2.9 & 3.4 do it too? Does the car have to be in sport mode for the blip to occur? Thanks.

When I first got my 987.2S PDK I was a little disappointed that it did not do the throttle blip but soon got used to it after a lifetime of double declutch changes while blipping but the 987 PDK throttle matching is very good and smooth so I have got used to not having the blip.

I believe that the 981 PDK only blips in sport mode.

I did find that having the actuating side of the box flushed and oil changed did clean out the operating side at 6 years, previously it had shifted more rapidly in sport mode but since even in ordinary road mode it is very quick.

My 981S has it on sport and sport plus

I only really use the sport as the blips on sport plus are too ferocious for me !!!

the sport exhaust comes on when either sport or sport plus is activated

it's so addictive I rarely turn sport off 😃😃😃

i cant believe I'm doing this at 60😃😃

Must admit that I run in sport mode most of the time or at least when my dog isn't in the passenger seat as he did as a pup tend to get car sick, but I do set the PASM to soft setting, my PSE doesn't come on when I select sport so maybe this can be activated by someone with PIWIS, maybe I'm also being a bit of a rebel as I turn 68...

With the Spring now here, bright sun, window open, PKD and the PSE open, it make so much B noise anyway who needs more from the blip using normal mode 'auto' driving but using my brain/right foot to over-ride the transmission brain? This way you can make the dog bark on command if you really must!

I'm now 70 and also enjoy the throttle blipping on Sport Mode on my 718 CS PDK. I never thought I'd say this, as a life long motor sport heel and toe exponent.

Less so "born again" more so "living the dream".

What I particularly like about the throttle blipping in Sport and Sport Plus is the fact that the faster you go the more ferocious the blip. Just like you do with a manual gearbox.

I love it.

BTW the 4 pot turbo is getting into my head now after 2600 miles. Another thing I thought I'd never say.

I guess that many of us are of an age where we were brought up on 3 or 4-speed manual gearboxes which didn't have synchro on 1st gear and had to learn how to double-declutch in order to make smooth progress. Come to think of it, the synchro wasn't great on the other gears either....!

How things have changed in the last 50 years; sometimes for the better.

Thanks for your contributions all. It looks as though I'll have to live without blips if I buy a 987.2 PDK, I know I could continue to drive a manual and get the blips by heal and toeing but my aging knees ankles and feet are not as quick and agile as they used to be. [:(].

Andrew, if you get a 987.2PDK I'm sure you will soon get used to it and be enjoying things, top gear is set very high and so not used much unless breaking the speed limit and cruising but the rapid shifts are highly enjoyable and make for rapid acceleration and road progress.
