Had an interesting couple of days this week, a slot at Silverstone with the new Gen 2 cars followed by a test in an R8 at our local Audi dealer. Although only a few laps in the pdk equipped 997, the impression of the transmission was that it was almost seamless when going up through the box with no jerkiness or need to lift on the throttle between changes. The contrast with the R tronic box was surprising, with a slurry feel to the changes and the need for some care with the throttle (as suggested by the salesman) to maintain smoothness. The paddles on the Audi are much more intuitive to use, even though I'm familiar with the button arrangement on the Porsche as we have a tiptronic KN. I prefer to hold the steering wheel in a ten to two position anyway, so never find paddles particularly comfortable.
Anyone else had more experience with these two systems?
