Dear all,

I have a 997 Carrea 2, phas II, with PDK and Sport Chrono etc. The car has 3.000 Klms and performs really well, but I have a doubt about the PDK. When downshifting by hand, with the padles or the central stick, from 4th to 3th gear and cutting the gas at the same time, around 3.000/3.500 RPM I can feel a light shock in transmission. This never hapens in automatic downshifts that are perfect, or when "giving gas".
It's this normal ?

I do seem to remember some mention of software updates... I haven't widely heard of this issue to be fair... Then again it may be down to expectations... garyw

Can you be a little more specific as to what this "light shock" is all about? The down changes are not always imperceptible and to some extent seem to be governed by what the gearbox thinks you are going to do! For example, if you changed down instead of up when accelerating it does take a moment to sort itself out. I find there is a "thump" from the gear change which is more noticeable the harder you drive both up and down the box so in that sense a "light shock" seems quite normal to me. I think the software update was more to do with a possible hesitation in pulling away from stationary.
 
Thank you very much. It's more a "thump" when downshifting from 4 to 3 by hand only. If I change at 2.000 is perfect. If I let the auto do it is perfect and, I remarqued it yesterday, if I stay on the"gas" or I change as I brake hard is perfect also. The "thump"only arrives if I change when cutting the gas completly, and only above 2.000 RPM. Actually I think this hapens when the box has the 5 pre-engaged, but I would like to be sure that all is ok. Local OPC says yes, but they don't know to explain what this can be wich I find a litlle hard to accept... Regards, Joao
 
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean but it isn't right....back to the PC I think. My pdk has been as smooth as the preverbial for 30K miles! D
 
Well, I will try to explain. The PDK is absolutly soft except in one case: When desaccelerating and, at the same time, downshifting manually from 4th to 3th doing more than 2.000 RPM (if less, all ok, if accelerating, ok, if in automatic, ok and if braking hard enough, ok, ). Joao your English is fine I know what you mean. I had a go in a Gen II PDK car at Silverstone. In normal mode (manual/auto) the shifts were perfectly smooth, in Sports mode the downshifts were very jerky. Although not the same situation as yours, it seems that either PDK is prone to jerky downshifts or it's just your car and the demonstrator that had that have problems.
 
Many thanks Rodney. My real concern it's to know if this is normal with the PDK or if this means a fault (in a new car). I suppose that people in Porsche check this forums. They could very well give some technical informations about this kind of topics. Such a good car deservs an exceptinal service, I think. And I had a gen 1 for 5 years and I can say that this one it's really very superior. However, PDK demands a "learning time" and Porsche could give users some more information how to get the better from it. Regards, Joao
 
Your car will still be under warranty, so take it to Porsche and see what they say about it, it seems most 997 PDK owners on here haven't had the same problem as yours.
 
I agree with Rodney. Take it to your dealer, get them to send a technician who knows about PDK out with you in the car so that you can demonstrate what you think is the problem. It is nearly impossible to describe these things as I found when I had a rattle in the back. We went 100m down the road and the technician knew instantly what was at fault.
