Peeling Arm Rests (Boxster S)

I remember this being a big issue a while ago on the American Boxster Bulletin Board, and the old Boxster Register mailing list, but haven't seen anyone mention it here so far.

Peeling Arm Rests (Specifically the "soft touch" coating on the Boxster S)

So who has had it happen here? (I have) and what have you managed to get Porsche to do about it?

I first had this happen at about the first service - the service manager said he had never seen it before and replaced the peeling (bubbling) item.

2 years later and it has happened again - to both arm rests! (Different) service manager says "never seen that happen before" and "no the extended warranty does not cover that"[]

Speculation before was that sun-screen was the cause, but we have been SO CAREFUL not to get any on the armrests because we knew this. [&o]

Has anyone else had this happen - or has it been fixed and we are unlucky?[&:]

Speculation before was that sun-screen was the cause

Do you mean sun-screen as in suntan lotion ?

If so, then wouldn't you expect to use it in a convertible ?

Or, have I missed the point, again ?

Yes I mean sun-block (as in I drive a convertable but don't want skin cancer...)

And yes, you would expect to use it wouldn't you...?)

Mine is peeling on the bit around the centre console where the buttons are.

And I have just broken the hinge on the drivers door cubby hole type thingy.

JCB..

I have it on both arm rests [&o] on the BOXSTER 'S' I have just bought.

How much are replacements ?
