People carrier drivers

[] Does everyone else find that nearly all people carrier drivers either try to overtake or keep up with them, and most of them look like Fred Flintstone pedalling as fast as they can!!

Apart from the obvious white vans, I find diesel Audis are often the quickest driven cars on the motorways and surprisingly Peugeots as well.

Mercedes Sprinter vans in long wheel base: I had one overtaking me whilst I was doing 115 mph.

(on the autobahn, officer)

The reason why Puegeot drivers drive so fast is probably because it's taken them so long to build up to that speed and are desperite to maintian it. The latest Puegeots must be the slowest cars on the road - i've had a couple as hire cars recently and they are worse than guttless. A far cry from the days when they were great drivers cars.

Merc Sprinter vans are definately the fastest things on the road. No matter how fast you drive you've always got one inches off your rear bumper. If Sabine had driven one round the ring in the recent Top Gear instead of a Ford Transit she would have smashed 10mins!

Quite a few years ago at a previous company we were discussing the careful selection of our new company cars amongst our team, comparing sound systems and the inevitable list of toys.

One of the marketing boys looked up from the list and said quote "I don't really give a s**t as long as it has the engine out of an Astramax van"

"Why is that?" we enquired.

He responded "on any given day some bastard driving one, with ladders on the roof, the back doors tied together with string and one arm out of the window smoking a roll up will p**s past you no matter how fast your going."

Seems times have not changed!

Didn't Top Gear do a drag race between the Astramax van, and a Ferrari & Prsche (or something similar)?

They had the cars scream off at the start, and van driver just sat there, finished his ciggie, "read" his copy of The Sun, and drank his thermos coffee, then set off - blasting by the supercars before the end of the course [:D]

Rooksey,
Your right they are either climbing over the back of you or trying to drive away from you (frustrated sports car drivers, methinks)

Richard B,
Its funny you say about Audi diesels, thats my everday run about, once you get it up to speed you need to keep it there [:D] . my work colleague has just bought an MPV 2 weeks ago, i am still taking the p out of him.

You should try living in Germany for a while, row upon row ten of speeding Audi/BMW's amd Merc diesels estates.... has a Saab 93 big T at the time and felt like the odd one out!
