Performance camshaft or not

My dudes.
Has anyone had any experience of road/race camshaft swap or even advance the cam by 4 degrees.
So not sure if advancing the one that's in the car will be a gain that is close enough to swapping out for a reground camshaft or even doing both, swapping the cam and advancing the new one.
Has anyone had any joy with this on a 944 LUX on even a 924S, any input will be great.

Cheers guys.

Wouldn't bother myself, playing with the cam timing just seems to move the power around. What you gain at the top, is lost elsewhere. I have often wondered what a 3.0 normally aspirated 8V would drive like. Achieved by starting with the 2.7 engine and fitting an S2 crank and modified S2 pistons.

Sounds like alot of work, not sure how much you would gain. When Porsche did this they went from 2.5 to 2.7 for a few HP so from 2.7 to 3 I would imagine would give you the same unless they held back for some reason.
Performance cam suppose to give about 10hp but a few forums from the yanks some years ago clame good gains from advance timings so not sure which way to go.

The 2.7 is a mystery engine. Aside from having a better block, Porsche didn't make the most of it.

I have heard good things about the dbilas "Road" camshaft. It seems to free up the top end nicely without losing too much down low. It is a drop-in unit, in the sense that it does not seem to require a retune, at least according to the folks who have used one. Not affiliated btw.

They do have a few different options and the fast road would be best for me, not sure of the difference between that one and the Augment which is a lot less £££.
But worth knowing cheers

The Augment Camshafts are just from Newman Cams with a hefty markup on top. Ring Newman up, speak to David and tell him what you want - I asked for the same spec as the "Catcam Sport” cams. Pretty sure the total price delivered started with a 2 for a brand new camshaft to spec, compared with a 3 or 4 from elsewhere.

Sounds like good value, I think one of the things putting me off is the cost of changing the cam (and parts) vs just udjusting the cam I have.
I won't be doing it myself but is it a big job ?
