performance chip.

As a new user to the forum, it seems like most of you guys really know your 944s. It's good to see that so many people are happy to share their knowledge with a novice like me. Your brains will be severely picked in the future!
I have a 2.7 lux, 1989 model and am conidering a performance chip, What can I expect from this? Are there any drawbacks and can I fit it myself or is this really a specialist job. If so is there anyone in the suffolk/essex area that you would reccommend. By the way, the car is sweet as it is, just fancy a bit more poke!
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

A good chip will give you more top end power (although only moderate on a 944 2.7), but more importantly will improve torque spread and drivability. It's a worthwhile upgrade for the cost and is easilly swapped out if you need to revert to standard.

Regards,
Andrew

You could argue that Andrew would say that [;)] , but there's many around here that will endorse the view. I've got a 924S and fitted a Promax chip with Panel Filter and BERU Plugs and the improvement in smoothness and mid-range driveability is impressive. A great low cost upgrade. Give it a go.

Hi Paul,

No draw backs at all ........

Apart from making the car very difficult to insure. Insurers don't like rechips and some won't even quote on a chipped car.

Best check that you can get insurance first.

Good point about the insurance, worth checking. By the way, I use a company in Brighton to insure my car. Company called Peter S Taylor & co. You can get a quote in literally minutes.
No stupid questions and no dodgy music to listen to. Also much cheaper than chips!
Ask for Marcella, they are well worth a try.
And no, I'm not on commission!!! Tel: 01273 820303
