Perthshire Drive - 1st April

We will be holding an informal drive and lunch on Sunday 1st April. Meeting up at 10:00am for a 10:30am departure at the car park of Perth Auctions (near the Huntingtower Hotel). From there we go along Glen Almond, over the hills to Aberfeldy, along Loch Tay and over the Ben Lawers road, down Glen Lyon, up via Dunalistair and arrive at The House of Bruar for a late lunch.

I did a recce of the route today, and being midweek I was unhindered by traffic, I had a marvellous drive. Hardly saw another car all day, magic. Here's hoping the weather's good and the traffic is light when we do it for real.

Meeting point will be the car park of Dobbies Garden centre (you can't miss it, first thing you see as you come into the Perth Mart site). 10:00am for a 10:30 start. From there we are going down Glenalmond, up the Sma' Glen, Aberfeldy, Loch Tay, over the wee road on Ben Lawers (see pic) and down Glen Lyon, which must be the prettiest glen in Scotland. Then past Schehallion to Kinloch Rannoch, and over the moors to lunch at the House of Bruar. The route is near as dammit 100 miles, and should take about 3 hours, so we should have lunch about 1:30. Some of it is quick and twisty, some very slow, but all of it very pretty if the weather is good.

For those for whom driving is not the main priority, the House of Bruar offers a serious opportunity for some retail therapy, and if you've never been there it is an astonishing place, a bit like a branch of Harrods in the middle of nowhere. You can look it up here .. http://www.houseofbruar.com/

See you all at 10:00 am then!

Thanks Scott, and for the record we now have the following cars ...

Me (John H)

Brian Wood
Paul MacIntyre
Scott Laurie

For once a head count is not relevant as there are no catering issues to worry about.

Any more takers?

John is this a hoon or a nice run with partners inc

It could be a bit of both actually. Some of the roads are simply too narrow for fast driving, and were chosen for their scenic qualities. There are equally a few sections where if the traffic is light, a bit of brisk motoring may be possible. Don't worry about it though, cos it's only a shortish run with an easily found end destination, so if we travel at different speeds it will still work out OK. Partners entirely welcome, maybe even mine will show up.
