Petrol Additives

Morning People,

I just wondered if people used any form of petrol additives in there 944.

We have a Vectra CDTI and the general consensus is to use the Millers Eco Max (Diesel) stuff in a full tank - keeps the soot under control and inlet / injectors, EGR etc cleaner.

Millers do a Eco Max for Petrol engines and I just wondered is people used that also..?

I use STP injector cleaner occasionally, it almost immediately improves the idle smoothness, and I think there are gains elsewhere too, depending upon how recently it was last used.

I don't have any soot come out the back of my Passat TDI, driving it like I stole it may have something to do with that though.

Personally I'd get the injectors cleaned rather than use an additive.

Sometimes use Redex Injector cleaner...seems to work as idle not so lumpy now. Some yers ago, on advice from a local Vauxhall tuning specialist, I used it on a Vectra SRI (petrol) that wouldn't tick over at all and it solved the problem completely, thus saving me the c£80 the dealer had quoted for replacing stuff.

Wondered if the Millers stuff might work OK on a 944?

I have used some Millers with premium 97 RON petrol and found it did help idle but prefer to use Optimax 99 as the idle is still smooth but the pick up is better and the exhaust note is better! NB my car is an '83 which should run on 98 RON
Not tried anything with the Optimax.
Will probably use something occasionally specifically to "clean" the injectors
Mike
