petrol fumes 97 C2"S" 44k miles

Hi guys,

My cabin smells of petrol (not exhaust fumes). it's particularly bad if the car's been left for a few days. There is no petrol leak anywhere so i presume fumes are leaking from somewhere. The boot smells quite strong. Driving is fine if the windows are kept shut. Yes, shut! It's not coming from the heater either or the engine compartment.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I remember reading about this problem a while ago on here - did a bit of searching and found this:

Any help?

Thx Mark - will check out the plastic fuel pipes between tank and filler tomorrow,,really think that may be it.... i don't think its the other issue,, if I don't have any luck tomorrow, will book it in i guess..

cheers

steve

The other thing to check is the fuel filler cap rubber seal - mine was perished, and was replaced recently at a cost of £2.50, I think.

yep,, not the fuel cap.. its like new,, they cannot get to the bottom of this,, seems the fuel tank has to come out now, so they can check the evaporation system, which was replaced very recently by Porsche Swindon, when they repaired the aircon system... lets see

I did have a similar problem on my 911SC. It turned out to be the fuel tank which had become corroded and was therefore somewhat porous. It was not obvious, there was no dripping from the front, It was only upon removing the tank did it become clear that the entire underside was damp.
I'm not sure if this is any help, for sure you should know oncethey remove the tank for otherwork.
Best of luck.
