Petrol Fumes

Guest

New member
At certain times, I get a strong smell of petrol inside the car (MY00 S) I cannot say for sure there are any particular circumstances when it is more prone to happen than others but it seems more noticeable after heavy braking. I mentioned this to my OPC at it' s 24,000 service a few weeks ago but they could find nothing wrong. Thoughts from anyone please as to what could be causing it, does anyone else experience a similar problem?

It is bad enough that I get the smell now and then but the thought of wasting fuel upsets me even more!!!!

Cheers

Had the same problem while on holiday in northumberland and the local dealer found that I had not done the fuel cap up tight anough !!!
you must swist it untill it clicks !
I found this completly solved the problem.

such candour deserves a special mention - I have taken the liberty of creating a new category of Forum member just for you...
Keep posting !!

Many thanks, I' ll give it a go. The trouble now is if this works, can I be as brave as Helen and you and admit to it, or will I have to pretend it was something much more technical? Perhaps I should re-train as a hairdresser!

Cheers

Who is this dai lermi fellow, sounds like a medical complaint!!

The answer is not straightforward, yes the petrol cap was not fully tightened but no, it has not got rid of the problem, I still seem to have a whiff of Eau de Esso. I have decided the only solution is to blast out the car with a tour down the west coast of Italy and back through Switzerland, just the wife to persuade now!!

So for the moment, no need to buy the heated rollers, but watch this space!

Have a great time.
If you need company I can I' m willing to wear my gas mask,[X(]

do Porsche do a designer one.?[X(]

Oh if only I could!!!

Perhaps a tour of Iraq instead, you wouldn' t look out of place there and we could have the top down all the time!!! Plus, if I retrained I could keep the curls looking tidy, sorted!!!

We would need a couple of rocket launchers in the front intakes as well as the gas masks.!!

ha, what a great idea.!

I' m off down the dealers to order the parts.

That makes me think this discussion should be interlinked with the what to do with the ashtray question you raised, 007 had a nice shiny red button for ejecting unwanting passengers, granted his was on the top of the gear lever, but this seems the ideal position, yours would be even cooler thanks to the damped opening mechanism. You could use it for unhelpful service managers or pushy salemen when you go to trade in for the GT3!!!

Have you sorted out the pertol fumes as yet?

I recently had the same problem with my 2001 model Boxster ' S' . I never noticed any smells when the tank was full, but as soon as the tank reached anywhere near half full, then the smell appeared, fumes you see.

Sent the car back to the Porsche dealer, Stratstones in Wilmslow who advise me of a kinked and split breather pipe from the top of the petrol tank.
Anyway the dealer ordered the new breather, (non in stock therefore delivered from Germany), fitted to the tank, which was removed and a week later, fixed with no problems since.

HAY DAI_LEMMA,
looks like you will be able to put your hair dressing caurse on hold,[;)]Steves found you a technical answer.

ANYONE SEEN THE DAI-LEMMA?

haven' t heard from him since his last posting on 30.4.03, hope his not been overcome with fumes and in a ditch somewhere in Italy[&o]

worry worry!!

Hello Helen

Yes still here, just been sitting in my garage for the last week taking in the wonderful aroma of wasted fuel, ahh how my life has changed since discovering the delights of PI' ing (petrol inhaling) stuff the Tunes help you breathe more easily, high octane super unleaded works every time, trouble is my nostrils now rival Daniella Westbrook' s due to shoving a jerry can up them every hour!

Great to have an alternative solution, pity though it was rinses and highlights this week at college. Now I just need a couple of days to get to an OPC for it to be checked, though now out of warranty, the small specialist dealers are looking tempting!

Peter

DEAR DAI_LEMMA.

sorry to bring this subject up again but im worried you may become addicted to the fumes (do porsche run a de-tox school)so i was just wondering how you got on at the OPC. or are you back doing the blue rinses?
