Hey guys,

I was running low on fuel (50miles left according to computer) so i filled the tank. However, the display did not register the full tank, it is now displaying as empty after my journey down south.. any ideas?? It is a 2003 Boxster S.

Similar thing happens in the Peugeot 407 if the keys are left in, seems to sort its self out if left turned off for a bit (overnight sometimes)

Normally this happens if you only put a few litres in, not when completely refilling.

Suggest you run it til the light again and then refill - it should sort itself out.

Same thing happened to me - was in a hurry and stopped to put a fivers in as that was all I had on me and when I was 1/2 mile down the rosd noticed that the mileage left hadn't changed. I did think at one stage that no petrol had come out! Any way when I filled it up properly everything was OK and I had forgotten avout it until now

Porsche issued a bulletin last year for Model year 2002 up. The fuel level float sensor can get blocked by a pipe in the tank after the tank is filled. Might check it out if it happens again. Jeff

not touched the car for a few days, filled the tank up this morning and still no joy. Still showing as empty.. Gonna be taken away in the week by OPC to be checked out!!

Got the car finally sorted by Brighton OPC! Or so i thought..

Was driving away this weekend, with half a tank of fuel when it cuts out on a dual carriageway doing 80!! Turns out i had no fuel, but the computer and the needle was showing I had half a tank.

So so pi**ed of!! Could have been nasty..

What responsibilty must the garage take??

Having similar difficulties with mine.

At first it wouldn't register the £10 of fuel I'd put in, took around half an hour - guage crept up slowly.

Same again with £40 of fuel.

Time for the OPC doctor

I had problem last year in France when after a ffull fill I noticed that guage still read nearly empty!..Had I just paid a french garage to fill the tank with air?
I carried on driving with the needle gradually movint to the fully empty position at which point it suddenly started to read correctly!
After various variations of needle positions versus actual fuel on board I took it to my OPC who found that a wire from the fuel level sender was interferring with the float in the tank.
The wire was re-positioned and I have had no further fuel level problem.
