Petrol Smell / CD radio manual

Incept

New member
Hi,

I keep getting a petrol smell inside the car, which is strongest at start up and gradually goes away with driving.

One other action seems to make it go too: Turning the air-conditioning on and off!

RPM in Knaresborough have checked all the fuel lines etc. and found no fault (twice).

The smell can be so strong that it is quite unpleasant to be in the car. On other occasions it seems to be absent altogether.

One thought I had was that this was an issue with the choke.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be most grateful.

On another matter: I'm on the lookout for an operation manual for my Porsche brand CD / radio. If there's someone out there with a spare, please let me know.

Cheers,

Chris

I have the petrol smell too on occasion, usually after it has been sat in the garage for a few days. Always goes but it can be quite strong!

Maurice - I am guessing an OPC will have a record of the cars that have had the loom changed? I think I ought to check too for good measure...

Cheers,

Mark

Hi,

The car's January 1997.

RPM are now checking for the wiring loom replacement with JCT600 (OPC).

What was all this about though? What connection was there between the loom and the smell?

Cheers,

Chris

Another possibility that seems to come up from time to time, is loose connections on the plastic fuel pipes between tank and filler (in the front boot). These connections have to be really tight (but do not overtighten!) otherwise you will get the petrol smell in the car. I found half a turn or so on the jubilee clips stopped the smell entirely. Then, if I had to loosen them for some reason, the smell started again.

Sometimes they seem to work loose on their own after several years.

Hope that helps.

Mark
