Petrol?

Can anyone advise me if it is ok to put BP Ultima fuel in my 1980 924. I currently use normal unleaded fuel with a lead replacement. The handbook says to use 98 Ron fuel.

Thanks.

BP ultimate ( if it is that to which you refer) has a minimum R.O.N. of 97 so its knock resistance is slightly lower, and if your 924 does pink then try the octane additives, or retard the ignition slightly by undoing the distributor clamp and rotating the distributor body half a millimtre at a time until the pinking ceases. Twas ever thus. As far as VSR goes, the valve seats of the 924 are damned hard in the first place, so this shouldn't be an issue. Any other 924 owners want to help me out here? I ground in 8 new valves on my turbo in 2005 and the powered valve lapper struggled to do the job so I should know. There is some 102 ron ulitmate but I have read elsewhere that is horrendously expensive,

I drove my 924 Lux from 76,000 miles on the clock to 196,000 on nothing but standard unleaded and never had a problem. I gave it away 2 weeks ago with an engine fault totally unrelated to fuel. The crankshaft oil seal wore out and it was cheaper to renew the car than the seals.
