Hi everyone,

Finally the baby is expected next week. One question, easy I hope, which petrol do you consider the best one to feed a 964 4C?

Fernando,

If the DME has the standard chip there is no reason to use anything better than standard unleaded. There may be some small advantage in using Super (i.e. Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate) in terms of the detergent cleaning but the engine, as standard, is designed to run on regular 95 octane.

If the DME mapping is modified (i.e. after market chip fitted) it is quite usual for such maps to demand 98 octane or better. If you have just bought the car it's unlikely that you would be able to tell if the DME chip has been modified without taking the thing apart to have a look. There is always a chance that a previous owner might include some paperwork but, to be fair, the absence of it doesn't prove a thing.

I would be inclined to experiment - a tankful of 95 followed by a tankful of 98/99 and let your backside tell you if there is any difference!!

Regards

Dave

You can't stop there! We need more details and more importantly pics!

The details : Carrera 4 coupe, guards red, 1990, black leather inside... the pics will arrive in due time

Post earlier this week featured the Which report ;-no advantage gained from using higher grade petrols,in some cases consumption increased & performance dropped.I use the cheapest petrol 95ron in both Porsches,I can find, generally at the moment Shell. On longer mixed but mainly motorway miles;-924S---32mpg; 964(to Inverness & back) 28.4mpg.No running on,no pinking,no hesitation-no comment![:)][:)]

ok, now it´s clear. Thank you to everyone. I´ll put the pictures as soon as I got them <8just moved home and the camera should be in one box, but I don´t know which one). In any case is red and pretty... I´ll put plenty of questions in the coming weeks.

Have a nice weekend

Steve.
Congrats on becoming Deputy 964 reg sec;it couldn't happen to a better man.
Cheers,
Colin.

I have been sucked into believing for the last year that super was the way forward but test have shown in the main their is no difference and remember in troubled times people will go for the cheaper option so the expensive stuff stays hanging about in the under ground tanks for longer
