There’s no problem running on 95-octane fuel Paul or E10. If necessary the DME will adjust the ignition timing in response to knock sensor inputs, and unless you’re really ragging the engine I doubt that you’ll notice any difference in performance.

sorry if this has been asked before - I did search but couldn’t find what I was looking for.....
I’ve a 718 2.5 GTS. Always use super unleaded when filling up.
With the current fuel shortages there only appears to be E10 available at the 2 local garages.

Is it an issue using e10 rather than super unleaded - it should be fine from a fuel system perspective, but I was wondering from a running perspective. In my previous base 718 I had filled up on 95 unleaded when super wasn’t available on a couple of occasions and had no issues.
 
Stopped using 99 octane in my 2009 Boxster a year ago, been on 95 octane since them, and since early Sept E10.

No issues at all, same mpg, same start, same response, BUT I don't rag it on the public road (or anywhere else).

Overtakes well, doubt I'll ever go back to 99 in the car.

You can always put 99 into the part empty tank of 95, it just dilutes the 99, so 1/2 tank of 95 filled with 1/2 tank of 99 = a full tank of 97, simple as that, as advised on here a year ago.

 
Just back from an enjoyable WOTY with R7

Had to run E10 for the Friday and Saturday tours, gut feel being negligible loss of performance with a slight increase in consumption

I've often wondered why Porsche put 98 RON on all of their filler flaps. Presumably not because they have shares in fuel companies.[:)]

 
Your engine is designed to provide optimum performance and fuel economy using unleaded premium fuel with an octane rating of 98 RON Porsche also recognizes that these fuels may not always be available. Be assured that your vehicle will operate properly on unleaded premium fuels with octane numbers of at least 95 RON Do not use any fuels containing more than 15 percent ethanol by volume

 
Its confirmed that the higher ethanol content fuel will give lower MPG. I find 98 Ron gives me more MPG by some margin and better performance.

I have always used super unleaded fuel, V-Power when available being my preferred brand. My 718 2.5t GTS ran exclusively on 99Ron E5 fuel. As well as optimising the performance, super premium fuels are also said to clean the engine internals within the injection system.

You'll also get better mpg with 99RON if that matters to you.

Night and day in a turbo car 95 ron vs 99, prob 30 bhp. Also Vpower is old news, I switched to Esso a month back , have no idea why people always skip on fuel and tyres but want to drive a Porsche ? ODD owners.

Synergy Supreme+ 99 ethanol free fuel[/h2]is very powerfull in the Z4 packs a big punch and works a treat in the GT3 and SPyder. best fuel on the market now.[/h2]
 
Unfortunately Esso Synergy Supreme + isn't available at the Esso staton near me. The closest one is 30 miles away [:(]

 
Must check out that Esso Synergy Supreme+ fuel with my A110 on my forthcoming trip south.

Mr Demon is correct in saying super unleaded optimises turbo cars to greater extent than normally aspirated engines.

I wouldn't use 95 Ron E10 unless absolutely the last resort.

We drive the best cars, they surely deserve the best fuel.

I`ll also be looking at ESSO next time ... thanks for the insight

I had to use the E10, two part fills of Shell ... the first on top of V Power, the second on top of the first E10, some 60 litres in total

On the full tank of E10 the car performed superbly, I am sure that no one would have been able to tell the difference ... the car was well used over some two hundred miles that day :p

As for optimum performance / the best fuel ... I am more than happy to trust Porsche`s guidance from their own Forum i.e. the vehicle handbook, given that I am less than an optimum driver [;)]

 
Tesco Momentum 99 is good, son runs this Integra R on it ,have tried it in the Porsches and runs fine ,but to be fair runs ok on 95 if honest cannot tell the difference .

 
Depending where we are located, what we get may not be what we think [;)] ... the fuel manufacturers have been supplying each other and private distributors since at least the 70`s. Either `like for like` or base grade which is then treated with an individual`s additives

Of the majors only Total and Exxon-Mobil (Esso) refine in the UK, apart from Murco the other refineries are non mainstream names albeit with links to some of the majors. Many of the smaller Tesco outlets are at Esso stations, perhaps Momentum is actually Esso Supreme [;)]

Fuel quality is also affected by storage, transportation and the seasons (vapour pressure management between Summer and Winter)

Remember the hiatus back in the day when vehicles were damaged by bad petrol, t`was cheaply imported from Europe in a tanker that had not had it`s tanks cleaned prior to loading

Our reaction to / opinion of fuel performance is therefore dependant on factors apart from RON and E numbers [8|] :rolleyes:

 
My Golf CS has an eco mode, anda performance mode.

I have had to put 95 ron in about 4 times over 45k miles, every time the car feels dead like it's in eco mode. THE ECU is quick to drop the performance but takes 3 tanks to get it back up there.

I only used V power 98/99 as long as I can remember and plan Euro trip breaks via Shell garages.

95 is shocking poor fuel I find , Tesco is poor also less trick cleaning in it, hence it's cheaper. As for air cooler cars avoid E10 !!! Shell was king, but has missed a trick, Esso has found a market in quality fuel and if you want what Porsche states BHP wise you need to buy the good stuff.

 
Car had it`s first tank of Esso Supreme last weekend, no noticeable difference to the V Power it landed on top of (42l on top of 22l)

Had been running for some two hours prior to the stop and as is usual, upon restart the car ran slightly quieter / smoother, less `rattle`. Whilst the engine noise / feel always improves with run time I put this change down to two speculative notions:

- Restarting somehow `resets` the engine harmonics ?

- The increased vapour pressure of the fresh fuel gives smoother combustion - running ?

All a bit butt dyno - placebo but hey ... the the world is flat elsewhere on the Forum [;)] [:D]

 
I normally fill up our Macan GTS at a local Esso station with Synergy+99 whenever I can and use the Porsche WEX/Esso fuel card to save a little. I recently tried Momentum 99 at Tesco whilst on holiday. Both fuels performed well. I have to say I did notice a slight lag in acceleration performance a few weeks ago and then remembered that I had used E10 to fill up when the E5 pumps were locked off awaiting a delivery. I am definitely sticking to E5 wherever possible for performance and engine benefits.
