Pheasant!!!

I had the misfortune to meet a low flying pheasant in my 987 the other day! Hit the nose quite hard as I was travelling quite quickly. Was expecting a lot of damage but in fact there is only what appears to be a 30mm crack just to the right and slightly above the number plate with some very fine scratches. The bad news is that having taken it to my OPC and then to a body shop they say they want to replace the bumper as they cannot effect a repair. They claim the material is unstable and that cracks always reappear and they think the scratches may also be stress fractures. This seems a very expensive route given the small area of damage. Has anyone had a bumper repaired successfully? I guess what is more relevant is has anyone had this done in South Lakes/ Lancashire? I do want the job done properly as I am extremely fussy but I thought minor defects like this could be repaired? Look forward to any views.

I know its a long way but Porsche OPC Reading have a plastic welding machine for bumpers and they are really good at using it!! I only know cos I live in Preston but bought my car from Reading and they lent me a new Box whilst waiting for mine to be ready and i reversed it into a wall.......

I had to pay and it didnt cost much and the finished job was perfect. And i really crunched it......

I guess other OPCs may have it, prob just a case of calling all the OPCs....?

Good luck !

Check the smart repair guys - they normally have a colleague who will do welding for them if its not a straightforward repair. Another alternative is a secondhand bumper via ebay or a Porsche parts place like Jasmine Motorsport, local to you !

HB Panelcraft are good i have had some work done there before but dont know if they have the machine you need.

My wife has just hit a pheasant in her landcruiser, totalled the drivers wing mirror, £296 squid plus 2 dents in the door, didn't even stop to pick the sodding thing up!

ORIGINAL: Timbo2

.........didn't even stop to pick the sodding thing up!

Just as well really.. you can shoot them and pick them up, though it would be considered bad form to pick up another chap's bird. If you hit one with a car, then you have to leave it for another chap to profit from your fortune!

Stuartu,

You have my sympathy. I picked up my spanking new 987S in 2005 and only 5 days later

a pheasant did the "road runner" trick staight out into my front end at only 40mph.

The thing went into the false scoop below the nose and broke it loose from its fittings.

500 squid later it was good as new. (the car not the bird!)..... the bird ran off!

Buzz.

Wow that's a coinsidense!

I picked up my 987S in 2005 and 10 days later got clobbered by a badger at 60 miles an hour. That was me doing that speed - not the badger, but it must have been travelling considering the damage it did.

Unfortunately for me, the car was then away for 4 weeks while they replaced the front PU, the near side air-con rad, the near side water rad and a few other sundry items and they had to wait 2 weeks for a new PU to come in from Germany as I was one of the first unfortunates to need one on a 987[:(]

The bill came in just a badgers tail under 3k.
