Phone error

Hello all,

My 997 C2 has developed an error with the phone.

When I start the car, the PCM display reads "System error - Phone not available"

It was intermittent at first, but does it all the time now.....

Any ideas on what it could be, or if someone has experienced this in the past?

Thanks

I had a similar problem with very poor/no signal. Turned out to be a faulty antenna which was replaced under warranty.

Well, mine last worked on Saturday.....and when it's working, it's perfect.

It either works fine or not at all by failing to initiate.....saying there'd an error so sounds like something different

The phone antennae sits under the front cowl at the bottom of the windscreen. The connector is a push on brass type similar to a GPS. They can become corroded or disconnected if the battery cover has been lifted usually after a service.

Wow, thanks for that Berty.

I had visions of shelling out for a new phone module (which are around £800 I think!)

I'll point the OPC to look there first, it certainly sounds like there's a loose connection.

Out of interest Allan, did you have an extended warranty when they replaced your antenna?...OPC Cambridge have told me that the phone module wasn't covered (didn't ask about the antenna)

No; problem arose within first 24 months. However, new extended (and much more expensive) warranty will cover the 'phone.

Interesting - mine failed within 1000 miles of new windscreen being fitted.

Went to get the problem checked out at OPC Hatfield today.

They said I needed a new telephone control module and that would be £600 sir. (Parts & Labour)
This is not covered by the extended warranty I have and I can't believe how expensive it is to replace.

How much would I save going to an Indi do you think?
