'Phone kit in Boxter/Cayman

Has anyone had a bluetooth carkit fitted in their boxter/cayman/911? Did you get the dealer to do it and if so, how much did they charge and what models did they fit?
I dont have a phone module with PCM but I am considering a B/T kit and wondering if I should ask the dealer to fit it or entrust it to the monkeys at 'The Carphone Warehouse'

Any views would be appreciated

Are you talking about a third-party one? I think the only Porsche one is the hardwired one requiring you to put your SIM into. This was one factory-fit or dealer-fit option that I could have really done with but I think the you can only use a third-party BT kit.

No I was thinking of 3rd party stuff. Quite like that new Parrot one with the colour screen showing pics of who is ringing you

That'd probably do the job. I would just need to check that it could be paired with 2 phones as the g/f will be driving the Cayman S (albeit v occasionally)

This is one area that Porsche have defintiely let the side down. A car phone-connection ought not to require PCM and phone kit (which in Australia cost nearly $10,000) to have a handsfree phone.

Has anyone got an alternative to clipping something onto your sunvisor?

Crikey, $10,000 for the phone kit! Yet another reason for your poor Australians to emigrate. Plenty of room for you in Scunthorpe if you're interested.

Worse still is the lack of a Bluetooth factory-fit option! Porsche really need to keep up with the times on phone technology. The salesman was trying to convince me of the benefits of removing the SIM-card from my phone and inserting it into the Porsche phone kit each time I got into the car. I decided against that option! ;)

Porsche have yet to go down the Bluetooth route as there are problems. Remember Porsche caught a mega cold with the Mk1 PCM. Moreover, the BMW system is far from foolproof! Far better to buy a 'pay as you go' simcard from Vodaphone (£10) and leave it in the car. You can always divert your other phones to the car and it saves broken fingernails!

In reply to Alex from Scunthorpe:

First to clarify my original post, the $10,000 inlcuded the PCM. I think thats about GBP4,000: so still outrageous!

Second, on the invitation to move to the UK, I think I was a little put off by the thread on "how cold can it be and still put the roof down?" While I'm sure there are redeeming qualities of life in the UK (the beer to keep you warm, the cricket results to keep you happy) I think I'll settle for life int he Antipodes
