Picked up my car (and rubber!)

Big Fry

New member

Finally picked up my car yesterday and I have to say I can't stop smiling....already used a tank of fuel getting to know her and what a gorgeous bit of kit it is...that exhaust note, in sport mode, in a tunnel...wow

Just one question I have for any tyre experts out there. I have Michelin pilot sports fitted, 295/35ZR19 (87Y) N1 on the front and 295/30ZR19 (100Y) N1 on the rear. Am I right in thinking that these are all year round tyres or are these the summer sticky ones?

Have tried to search for any answer, but can't seem to find it, any help appreciated.

Just off to stand outside and stare at it some more!

All year, barring snow and I am sure your baby will not be seeing much of that. Great rubber but bleeding expensive [&:]

Thanks Marlin, that's good news...

A pic of my car...so pleased with it...now where can I drive next....

[:)] I remember that feeling..

On our last register drive I made apoint that whilst we see Porsches on quit e regular basis, many people don't and its still a special experience for them..
On more than one occasion in Wales kids spotted me (at the front) and smiled and then you could see the delight as they looked down the road and saw more of them [:D] - same feeling I'm sure as Big fry [;)]

Barnaby, welcome to the register..

Is that a misprint or do you have same width tyres front and rear?

Nice new toy

Probably warm weather tyres - special cold weather are for Sub 5C so you would have trashed them by now

Its normally 225's at from 295's at rear is the 295 front and rear a misprint?

Michelin pilot sports are the best tyres for the Gen 1 997

Sorry a typo, although worryingly I have 235/35ZR19 (87Y) N1 on the front. Does this mean they are the wrong size?

I have also had an odd day on the topic of oil. I spoke with the OPC about top up oil and they said my warranty wouldn't stand unless I used Mobil 1 0w30. So i looked online and couldn't find any online and so e-mailed opie oils and Guy said that i could use Mobil 1 0w40 and that 0w30 was the wrong oil as it is a longlife one. So i then called the Porsche customer service line in Calcot and was told that without doubt I should use 0w30 and nothing else!

I guess my question is what should I use as I don't want to have a problem with my warranty later on if something goes wrong!

Still loving every minute of it...thanks for your comments and help.

your front tyres are the correct size

As for oils there is a long list of aproved oils - search the forum as its posted quite regularly.

OPCs are now standardized at Mobil 1 due to buying policy - i've supplied my own non Mobil oil for servicing and never had an issue as the Fuchs i used was on the list.

Congrat on the new car, looks really nice...
Collecting my 997TT on Monday so I'm all excited... Can't wait to see the difference from my 997C4S

True but surely the recommended oil from mobil is 0-40?

Thanks for the comments on the car and for the advice. I have now clarified the oil situation with Porsche GB and all is right with the world. There are a range and it would appear that Mobil 1 0w40 is the recomended one...although there is a longer list as someone mentioned.

Still can't stop smiling and to add to my enjoyment I was approached in a petrol station and told i had a 'nice car mate'.
