Picked up my new car but slight problem.

Picked up my new Boxter yesterday, its a 98 S plate 2.5.

When I approach 65mph I can feel a vibration through the whole car, as i go faster it gets really bad like the whole car is going to shake apart, if I had to make a guess i would say that its coming from the back.

The back of car has a bald Conti on one side and a brand newish budget on the other side, I have ordered 2 new Conti's to go on as soon as they get them in, could this be the reason why its vibrating or am i about to be in for some costly repairs?

If anyone can help i would be very grateful as i'm very worried my dream car is going to turn out to be a nightmare.

Could easily be an unbalanced wheel causing the issue (if I was a betting man I'd put money on it!) - once you have 2 proper N rated contis in place I suspect this issue will have disappeared!

when moving along knock car into neutral, let car roll along, if noise related to rolling wheel, (engine will just idle 900rpm)
you can isolate noise to which side etc,
if noise only at over 65mph, prob tyre issue,

Surly you test drove the car before you purchased it ? would have thought you would have been aware of it at that time.

Its not a knocking noise just a shuddering type virbation.

I did give it a good test drive but as i said, it only does it at higher speeds, I could only do around 60mph on my test drive, didn't think to take it on the M way.

change the tyres,on one of our previous boxters I put on cheap tyres to sell it,couldn't drive it above 70mph,skipping,tram lining.
your vibration, definitely unbalanced,Get your new tyres fitted and a alignment(a must)

If you find the vibration is the same in every gear at the same revs then it could be the front engine mount. If is at 65MPH then suspension/wheel/tyre problems more likely.

Hi was just wondering about the sale of your car if it was a private sale or the car was sold through a dealer?

Hi my reason for asking was that no one on here would have let a tyre get to that state and would have not put a cheap tyre on the otherside, I would take the car and get it an inspection just in case there is any other little problems waiting to rear their heads. Hopefully not

Chris

Yeah, thanks, will be doing that soon.

From what the guy said who was selling it, is that his brother took it out and got a puncture and just put a cheapo on there, he was not very happy that he done that but as he wasn't using it much anymore and put it up for sale, i guess he didn't want the extra cost before selling, silly really.
