Couple of questions from a new 944 owner....

Firstly does anyone know of anywhere I can get a replacement head lining for my car? It had a major sunroof leak before I bought it which involved the head lining being cut apart plus the water has ruined it anyway. Any info gratefully recieved.

Secondly I have noticed a bit of a whine when the car is running, increases with the revs etc. Doesn't appear to affect the running or anything, still goes like stink and nothing is noticably wrong. Any ideas anybody or is this just a normal sound from the engines.

My car is a 1986 944 Lux if it is of help.

Cheers

HI

I would think thats Dieters old car? you can normally get headlinings off ebay, or the breakers (try douglas valley) but if you want one in the same colour you may need to wait for a while to get one.

And I have been told they all whine a certain bit.

I brought a 944 the other day, I did have talks with Dieter about his but settled on one that was close to me (and red so obviously faster), mine does whine, and there are various other guys on here that state they all do it, it may be worth changing the gearbox fluid in the car, that may make it quiter, or get some more soundproof padding in the vehicle.

There's always going to be a whine from the transaxle, since it runs right through the middle of the car! It can be minimized through good quality lubrication and making sure that all your bearings are a smooth and true as possible, but you can never get rid of it completely.

There tends to be a massive difference in noise level from car to car, depending on it's particular history and current state "¦ but they all do it.

If it's from the back, they all do that. From the front - you say engine - then mine makes a real whine from the water pump. Supercharger sound, I like to think! [:)] It was checked as ok at the last belt change and deemed fit for another three years as my mileage is pretty low.

Sounds like the water pump could well be a possibility as it seemed to be from the engine itself rather than the axles etc because I was stationary. Thanks for everyone's answers and I will just keep an eye on it

just remembered that auto jumble is on the weekend of the 24th, you may be able to get it there
