Well its been a month now, without any issues and so different to the 996 I owned before it, thought id put a picture or two up, apologies but it seems to have constantly rained every day since I've owned it (except saturday night last week when I managed to have a very nice drive!). I do need to get a good coat of wax on it before the weather sets in (its used every day for work) so will need some advice, is Zymol ok on basalt black and it is worth clay baring it first given its age / condition?

Clay barring has to be one of the easist ways to transform a paint feel. Jon, I'd certainly say its worthwhile doing it prior to Polishing. My car certainly seems to collect dirt on the back end, the clay bar leaves a wonderful smooth finish. garyw

clay baring does make a difference-mine looked much better afterwards-and yes ,been using zymol on all three of mine-i usually end up puiing an additional coat every two-three weeks to keep up the thickness nice looking motor[:)]

Agree re the clay bar-ing. I found it surprisingly easy to do and you can, literally, feel the difference. I havent used Zymol but I recently did my car with Dodo Juice Purple Haze wax, which is great for darker cars. The soft wax is easy to work with too and you can buy a panel pot (which I suspect will do the whole car 3 or 4 times) for about Ă‚ÂŁ6. I am thinking about investing in a machine polisher but havent yet had the courage. If I do, I might have to experiment on the wife's Volvo!

jon, Lovely car. i have been using a product called Raceglaze for the past 6/7 years. I have found this fantastic and it require minimal effort. A starter pack which includes wash shampoo, claybar, claybar lube, pre wax cleaner and finally Creme perfection polish would cost approx Ă‚ÂŁ70.00gbp and it will last at 6/7 applications It leaves no white residue on rubbers and can be used on windows. what i do now is to finally apply a Raceglaze 55 wax and have to say results are marvellous. If you could explain to me how you get your photo,s posted i will post some of my cars. i am a little bit thick when it comes to computers regards

Alex's desription on how to post pictures, although many of the pictures are missing [&:] garyw

thanks for the replies, ive still got 1 and 1/2 bars of clay left from before, but i dont have any of the lubricant stuff - it was a meguires kit, and the lube was a detailing spray. what can I use instead? would a dilute solution of autoglym or zymol body wash do the same thing or does it need to be a specific product? (tried this before on my 996 and it seemed to work ok!) Id go onto a detailing website forum, but Im trying to keep away from that level of fanatacism (i.e im bad enough already) what do you all think? thanks Jon

Yeah, any good wash shampoo diluted will do but why dont you just stick with a recommended lube , it will probably work out cheaper regards

Photos Alan, thanks for the help on posting photo,s. Jon I have just detailed both cars with Raceglaze. About 3hrs per car which was typically ,shampoo, claybar, polish, apply 55wax and remove all wheels and polish. look at Raceglaze website regards

hi I couldnt find any clay lubricant anywhere (having a quick look on the net and when I went into halfords) so any ideas where i can get some would be great I already have a tub of zymol wax and the wash solution and precleanser, which was a kit my wife bought me from John Drake, just not sure if the pre-cleanser (which is the stuff that smells like chocolate and wont come off if you leave if more than a few seconds) was safe or suitable to use on my new car and if it was better or instead of clay baring when i did my 996 before i washed it using the zymol bathe, then clay bared it, then used the pre-cleanser stuff on each panel then washed and dried it again ( to get the remains of the chocolate off) then put the zymol on - does this sound about right, and is there anything i need to watch with it being a black metallic? thanks for all the comments so far, apologies for the pics ( but the iphone works quite well and pairs with the car perfectly) Jon

The meguiars stuff I use is a quick detailer... it was as cheap to buy the pack of both items as it was to buy the Clay bar.... garyw

Jon Do not leave the pre wax cleanser on to dry , i tend to apply it no one panel at a time and remove very quickly. I would be reluctant to wash car again after appling the pre wax cleaner. I have used the zymol products before and they are good but hard work. I live in N Iron and i buy raceglaze from their web site say anytime up ontil say 14.00 hrs and i have them next day. Really its your call and experimenting is the only way to find out. regards
